At the university’s career fair last week, Michael McComish talked with students who wanted to learn more about Allegiant Partners, the equipment financing firm where he works.
A few years ago, Michael was an OSU-Cascades student on the other side of the table, looking for the right opportunity.
Michael grew up in Salem and knew he wanted to be an OSU beaver like his mother. He was attracted to Bend’s entrepreneurial spirit and enrolled in the business administration program at OSU-Cascades.
While in school he ran a house painting franchise, getting experience in lead development and sales.
"Whether learning about large or small companies, about marketing or databases — I gained something every term at OSU-Cascades," said Michael.
During his junior year, he stopped by the Allegiant Partners table at a career fair and struck up a conversation. That led to an internship, and then full-time employment.
As an account executive with Allegiant Partners, he helps companies finance and lease trucks and equipment. He works with companies like FedEx to build truck fleets, and also specializes in cleaning and restoration equipment.
“Every day is something different,” he said. “I get to work in Bend with a great team and help small businesses grow.”
His advice to current OSU-Cascades students is to get out there. “Pursue all opportunities, network as much as possible, and follow-up,” he said. “You never know what’s out there for you.”
