Fermentation Education is an educational event on April 21st, 2017 in TYKH 111 from 5:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Fermentation plays a key role in the life of all Oregonians. Throughout the evening we'll explore topics ranging from the history and science behind fermentation, the economic and agricultural impacts, sustainability practices, and global marketing ventures. Representatives from local breweries, distilleries, and bakeries will speak on how fermentation influences our community In addition to the lectures, there will also be an internship fair where students will be able to talk with hiring managers from local fermentation based companies about summer jobs and internship opportunities. The evening will close with a tasting session sponsored by local breweries, distilleries, and others for attendees aged 21 and over. The topic of fermentation can be related to all academic majors here at OSU-Cascades and is crucial to the Central Oregon culture

7:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.: Internship/Jobs Fair and Dinner
7:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.: Yeast's Effects on Whisky Flavor Profiles
8:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.: Agricultural Impact of Hops in Oregon
8:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.: Economic Impact of Fermentation on Local Communities
9:00 p.m. - 9:15 p.m.: Meet the Presenters & Snacks
9:15 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.: Tasting Session (for Attendees age 21+ only)
Students will be able to talk with hiring representatives from local fermentation based companies about possible internship and job opportunities throughout the upcoming summer and fall. In the weeks leading up to the event, students will be able to meet and work with Kelly Sheuerman (OSU-Cascade's Internship and Employment Coordinator) to polish their resumes and receive critical information on how to set yourself apart from the competition.

Guests ID's will be checked upon entry to the event. Drink cards and souvenir tasting cups will be distributed upon entry to the tasting session. Guests will be provided one (1) drink card with four (4) punches. Each punch will grant the holder 4oz of beer, 3 oz wine, or .5 oz of spirits. No additional alcoholic samplings will be distributed.
I'm under 21, can I still attend the event?
Yes, absolutely. You don't need to be "of age" to learn! If you're under 21 years of age, you're welcome at all parts of the event except the Tasting Session at the end of the night. There will be Kombucha and dinner available in a different location during this time which you're of course welcome to sample.
Do I need to bring my ID?
Yes. We will be checking IDs for anyone participating in the Tasting Session. You must have two (2) forms of ID with you
Do I need to RSVP?
Yes. Due to the limited space and expected high attendance as well as the nature of the topic, we're asking everyone to RSVP. Register Today!
Can I just come to the tasting session?
No. This is an educational event designed to engage our campus community in exploring the fun and interesting topic of Fermentation. Only participants who have checked in at the beginning of the event will be allowed to attend the tasting session. If you know you're going to be late please let us know ahead of time via email to email@example.com. Late check-In will close at 7:00 p.m., at the beginning of the Internship Fair portion of the event.
Can I bring a guest?
If the guest is an OSU-Cascades student, faculty, or staff member please have them complete the registration themselves. If not, space is very limited and priority will go to OSU-Cascades students, please contact the Office of Student Life at firstname.lastname@example.org for further information
