OSU-Cascades Warm Winter Commute Challenge begins February 19!

Winter Commute ChallengeFrom Feb. 19 to March 2, six teams will compete to win prizes by using active transportation to access campus. We challenge each team to collectively make 80 trips to/from campus by foot, bike, bus, or carpool.

Join a team, log your commute trips, and help your team win the weekly prizes and a grand prize. (trips from the park-and-ride at Columbia/Simpson qualify)

Every active commute trip logged increases your team's chances of winning the grand prize: An exclusive "Bend Beavs" sweatshirt for each team member!

  1. Login or register at drivelessconnect.com with your .edu email address. New users: please use a local address for your residence.
  2. Click “Join the challenge and get started” link on your account homepage.
  3. Click “Winter Commute Challenge” logo or “warm winter challenge” hyperlink
  4. Click green "Join Challenge" button
  5. Select “teams” tab below to find and select the team you would like to join. Click the green “Join Team” button to join your team.
  6. Log your active commute trips using the trip calendar online or with the “trip logger” app available in iTunes and Google Play.

Teams (Subject to Change)

Six teams have been established by committed team leaders. If you are not assigned to a team, you are free to choose a team. The six teams are organized to include one faculty and one staff member. Each team can have up to 12 members.  

All students are available to join a team of their choice, and any employee not identified below is a "free agent."

Prizes

Active commute trips qualify for weekly prize drawings and towards the team grand prize. All trips qualify for rewards through Cascades Commuters. Grand prizes will be assesed based on a point system. 1 point is earned for each commute trip logged, and 1 point earned for every 10 miles logged. 

The team that logs the most active commute trips will win the grand prize: a Bend Beavs sweatshirt for each team member. Each individual who meets the given trip incentive of four days over a two week period will recieve an Emerald City Smoothie gift card. The individual to earn the most points will be awarded $50 in Downtown Dollars valid at virtually any store downtown. Weekly prizes will be offered, as detailed in the table below. Winners will be notified by email.

Rules (aka Fine Print)

Max of two trips per day per person (one round-trip)

In order to qualify for prizes, an individual must log at least 4 trips during the challenge, demonstrating they are actively participating. 

Commuters 

  • Commute: defined as a trip from your personal residence (or a park-n-ride like the long-term parking lot) to campus when you are not driving alone, includes biking, walking, rolling, carpool, bus, etc.
  • Work Related (non-commute): from Chandler Ave campus to/from GRC or an off-campus meeting. Lunch trips greater than 0.25 miles from campus qualify, but walking next door to coffee does not.

Resident Students

  • Personal vehicle must be parked on campus (with valid permit) or be parked in the long-term parking lot for the duration of the challenge.
  • Work Related (non-commute): from Chandler Ave campus to/from GRC.
  • Personal: Trips greater than 0.25 miles from campus qualify.
