Many students like to maximize their usable space in student rooms by incorporating lofts or bunks for their beds. A loft is a bed that is raised so that a student may place their desk or other furniture underneath to maximize space.  A bunk is when two beds are stacked on top of each other. Please review below to learn what options we provide for your room assignment.

Requests are made online through the MyUHDS website and can be ordered throughout the academic year. Students are not allowed to build their own lofts. The hall has adjustable beds that can be raised up to 42 inches high without a loft kit.

For Fall 2017 loft and bunk requests may be made beginning June 30, 2017 at 10am if the student has been assigned a room and signed their contract. Based upon availability, all loft and bunk reservations confirmed by August 4, 2017 will be installed by OSU-Cascades staff and placed in the student’s room before the school year begins. Requests made after August 4, 2017 will be filled based upon equipment and staff availability.

If there are no available loft or bunk kits, the student will be placed on the waitlist which continues into the school year. If a loft or bunk kit becomes available, the first student on the list will be notified via ONID email and will have 48 hours to accept.

Additional Loft & Bunk Information
  • A loft is a bed that is raised so that a student may place their desk or other furniture underneath to maximize space.  A bunk is when two beds are stacked on top of each other.
  • These beds can be raised up to 42" high without a loft kit or bed risers. Beds can still be raised with retail-purchased bed risers.
  • During the academic year, if a student with a loft or bunk changes rooms to a room which accepts UHDS provided lofts or bunks, the loft can be moved with the student to their new room at no additional charge.  The student may request this move by submitting a maintenance request.
  • If a student cancels their contract or moves to an ineligible room, they can transfer a loft or bunk to the roommate remaining in the room at no cost as long as there is no waitlist for lofts or bunks.
  • Students may request to remove a rented loft or bunk kit throughout the academic year by submitting a maintenance request. The rental fee will not be refunded or reduced.
  • Loft and ceiling heights may vary slightly.  Please submit a maintenance request to have your loft height adjusted.
  • There is no limit on the amount of students that can order loft kits in a single room, unless doing this would block a window, due to the shape of the room.
