Master of Arts in Teaching
Description
Few professions have the potential to impact lives like teaching. Our nationally-accredited, cohort-based teaching program offers Master of Arts in Teaching degrees in elementary and secondary education, as well as coursework to support continuing learning and accreditation. Teaching faculty focus on instructional strategies and methods, best practices, research-driven theory, and practical experiences to prepare teaching candidates for an Oregon Preliminary Teaching License.
In-Person
With a physical campus and modern classroom buildings, we are the only public university offering a site-based teaching degree in Central Oregon. Our exceptional in-classroom instruction uses a cohort model where students form strong relationships with peers and faculty. OSU-Cascades MAT students earn endorsements in elementary or secondary disciplines and have the option to add the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement. This program can be completed in either one or two years.

Online
Through the online Elementary Education program, complete your graduate coursework through top-ranked OSU Ecampus and your student teaching in partner school districts throughout Oregon. The two-year online cohort program offers wrap-around support for students throughout the program with hyflex meetings each term to connect with peers and faculty. Ecampus MAT students earn endorsements in elementary multiple subjects as well as English for Speakers of Other Languages or Dual-Language.
A Flexible Program for School District Staff and Working Professionals
The online program provides a unique pathway for district staff to become licensed elementary teachers. If you currently work with students in an elementary setting, our program has the potential to enable you to keep your job while earning a Master of Arts in Teaching and licensure. The elementary Ecampus program may also suit working professionals who need online and hybrid coursework paired with a robust student teaching experience.

2x more student teaching
OSU-Cascades provides a student teaching experience that is more than twice the hours required for an Oregon preliminary teaching license. You’ll spend the school year gaining valuable hands-on experience in K-12 classrooms — applying instructional strategies and methods, exchanging best practices with co-teachers and getting feedback from university supervisors.
