When is the virtual commencement ceremony?
The 2021 commencement ceremony will be held virtually on Sunday, June 13, 2021, available beginning at 9 a.m. Given the status of COVID-19 in Oregon, nationally and internationally, we are unable to gather in-person. While disappointing, the decision to hold a virtual commencement ceremony was made with health and safety as the number one priority. We hope that you invite your friends and family to view the virtual commencement.

Who is eligible to participate in the virtual commencement?
All students who graduated in Summer 2020 or Fall 2020 and those expected to graduate in Winter 2021, Spring 2021 or Summer 2021 are invited to participate.

How do I participate in the virtual commencement?
There will be details in the coming months on how to participate in commencement. Opportunities for active engagement will be shared on the OSU-Cascades Commencement Website website and through social media.

 

What is the Drive Thru event?
This event is an additional experience to the Virtual Commencement ceremony on June 13. Between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. (during designated time), students will drive to campus to be celebrated by faculty from their program, staff, and other students. While graduates and guests will be in their vehicle the majority of the time, there will be time for graduates to take a special photo "on stage" to commemorate the moment.

What should I wear for the event?
While there is no dress code specifically for this event, graduates are encourage to minimally wear "business casual" attire due to the opportunity for taking photos. Graduates are encouraged to bring their cap and tassel from their GradBox, and commencement regalia if choose to rent/borrow/purchase.

Are there any other aspects of the event that I need to be aware of?
While we want this to be a fun and celebratory event, there are a few things to keep in mind in preparing for the event.

  • Only one car per graduate in attendance. This is intended to keep traffic moving and reduce slowdowns on campus and surrounding arterial streets.
  • For the special photo area, ONLY graduates are allowed to get out of the car to take a photo, so they should not be the driver of the vehicle in attendance. Guests are asked to stay in vehicles.  No other photos will be allowed on campus during the event in an effort to focus attention on the event.
  • There will be no "long term parking" options on campus the day of the event.

What is the best time for me to attend?
Graduates may arrive at any time between 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM; however, we have tried to make your program's specific faculty available at the following times:

  • 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
    • All Masters programs (MAT, Counseling, MFA), Art, Arts, Media and Technology, Biology, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, HDFS, Kinesiology
  • 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM
    • American Studies, Computer Science , Energy Systems Engineering, Engineering Science, Liberal Studies, Natural Resources, Psychology, Social Science, Tourism, Recreation and Adventure Leadership

What if I want to order regalia for pictures?

  • You may use your own or borrowed regalia if you choose to wear a cap and gown.
  • New to 2021, all graduating students will receive a "GradBox", which will include a cap and tassel. Be sure to update your mailing information.
  • Regalia may be purchased online through the OSU Beaver Store at osubeaverstore.com, or by calling 1-800-854-7464. The OSU Beaver Store has pricing information.

Am I still able to obtain my honor cord?
Please review the degrees with distinction (i.e., Latin honors) criteria at https://registrar.oregonstate.edu/degrees-distinction. Students who meet the criteria outlined on that web page can purchase commencement honor cords online via the OSU Beaver Store website osubeaverstore.com, or by calling 1-800-854-7464.

How will I receive my diploma?
Starting Summer 2019, original diplomas are mailed free of charge via USPS first class mail (standard delivery). This service is provided by the Michael Sutter Company, our vendor that prints OSU diplomas.

  • Once your final grades are recorded and your degree is awarded (see important graduation/diploma dates here), you will receive an email from diplomaorder@michaelsutter.com in your OSU email account.
  • This email includes your Secure ID to order your diploma. Please save this email for any future diploma requests; you use the same Secure ID for every transaction.
  • Within 9 business days after submitting your diploma order, the vendor mails your diploma at no charge to you.
  • Due to COVID-19, we've temporarily suspended the ability to order to pick up at the Office of the Registrar. If you need this service, please contact graduation@oregonstate.edu to arrange a time when you can pick up your diploma.

Will I be notified if I am not eligible to receive my diploma or graduate?
Yes, we will notify you through your OSU email account.

MyDegrees shows I am on track to graduate; is there anything else that I need to do?
The MyDegrees audit is a good faith preliminary audit. After the term ends, a full audit will be completed during the degree clearance process, using final grades and college input. You will be notified if there are any deficiencies at that time or you will receive a notification that you have successfully graduated.

How do I know if I graduated?
Degrees are cleared approximately two weeks after the term ends. You can see if your degree has been awarded by checking your unofficial transcript in the My OregonStatetranscript section. Additionally, an email notifying you of your graduation status will be sent to your OSU email account. Be sure to closely monitor your OSU email account for a minimum of one month after the term for which you are a candidate for graduation.

Your academic advisor has the most information about your specific program of study and should be your first point of contact for questions related to your specific questions.

What size is my diploma?
The diploma size for all graduates is 8.5 x 11 inches.

How do I obtain a diploma case?
You will receive a diploma case in the mail before commencement day. Please be sure to update your current mailing address in My OregonState.

Where do I order frames for diplomas?
Frames are available through OSU Beaver Store.

How do I obtain my original diploma?

How do I order another (duplicate) diploma?

  • Go to the OSU diploma vendor website. If you do not yet have a Secure ID then click on the “Submit a Diploma Request” button, complete the information, and then click on the “Submit My Diploma Request” button.  We will process your request and then send you an email with your Secure ID allowing you to complete the process.
  • If you already have your Secure ID then enter your OSU ID and Last Name, review your information, and then order your diploma.
  • The charge for a duplicate diploma is $36.
  • Choose your shipping method; shipping options start at $3.50.
  • Two business days following your order submission, your duplicate diploma will be mailed.

Students who were confidential students and never revoked their confidentiality request will need to work with the Office of the Registrar in person to order a duplicate diploma if they have lost their Secure ID from Michael Sutter.

Duplicate diplomas are printed on current diploma stock, which is 8.5 x 11 inches.

How do I order an eDiploma?
After you received your original diploma, you may order an eDiploma (PDF diploma).

These are available for a one-time $8 fee. You will log in the same way you would to order a duplicate diploma (directions above), so be sure to have your Secure ID. If you have not received one, you can request one by clicking the ‘Submit a Diploma Request’ link and providing the requested information.

Once on the ordering page, you will see a button that says ‘Order my eDiploma’ in the upper right-hand corner. Click that and follow the instructions. You will receive your certified eDiploma minutes after you place your order.

Can I pick up my diploma rather than have it mailed to me?
If you graduated prior to Summer 2019, your diploma is likely in our office. While the office operates remotely due to COVID-19, please contact graduation@oregonstate.edu to schedule a pick up.

You may come to 102 Kerr Administration Building on OSU’s Corvallis campus to pick up your degree; please bring photo ID with you. If you wish to have someone else pick it up for you, you may. You will need to fill out this form and have the person picking it up for you bring this form, along with their own photo ID that matches the name of the person picking up the diploma that you wrote on the form.

If you graduated in Summer 2019 or a later term, the ability to order to pick up at the Office of the Registrar is temporarily suspended due to COVID-19.

I graduated before summer 2019 and never picked up my diploma. Do I need to pay to have it mailed to me?
If you graduated prior to Summer 2019 when we switched to this new process, we likely still have your diploma and can mail it to you. To have it mailed to you, please fill out this form. The charge for this mailing will be $25 for those addresses in the U.S. and $40 for those international addresses. Alternatively, you may pick it up at the Office of the Registrar without any charge. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our office is working remotely. If you plan to pick it up, please email graduation@oregonstate.edu to schedule an appointment to pick it up and bring photo ID.

Is there a way to choose an expedited shipping method?
While the mailing of the original diploma doesn’t allow for shipping upgrades, a student can order a duplicate diploma even before the original has been mailed. This duplicate system allows for upgraded shipping, including overnight delivery.

I graduated before Summer 2019 and I want both my original and duplicate diploma mailed to me. How do I do this?
If you never picked up your diploma, you may either pick it up from our office in 102 Kerr Administration Building or you may request to have your diploma mailed using our diploma mailing request form. To order a duplicate diploma, please follow the process on ordering a duplicate diploma via Michael Sutter outlined above. Please note that our office is currently working remotely. If you wish to pick up your diploma, you need to email graduation@oregonstate.edu to schedule a pick up time.
