OSU-Cascades is returning to an in-person commencement for 2022, and a new location at the OSU-Cascades campus.
OSU has a long tradition of making a great effort to give each student their own diploma at the ceremony. For this to work, everyone has to do their part. Students are required to RSVP to OSU-Cascades so we know who is coming. Graduates will be not be alphabetized this year, but will need to sit with their program/major, and will be organized at check-in. Tickets will be required for the event due to new space considerations, of which students will pick up at the end of May. On commencement day we are unable to accommodate students who have not RSVP'd, so please do so by May 30.
Eligible students include: students who graduated summer 2021, fall 2021 and winter 2022, and students who are planning on graduating spring 2022 and summer 2022.
Additionally, students eligible to attend spring 2020 commencement are cordially invited to attend this ceremony.
High achieving undergraduate students are recognized through the posting of academic distinction to transcript and diploma. Grade-point averages are computed on the basis of all work attempted at OSU. At the end of each term, after final grades are posted, the academic distinction will be evaluated and posted to transcripts and diplomas. Graduates who have completed at least 90 credits at OSU or 60 upper-division credits at OSU, and who have an OSU cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, are awarded an OSU degree with distinction as follows:
|Academic Distinction||OSU GPA Range||
Honor Cord Color
|Cum Laude||3.50 - 3.69||Orange|
|Magna Cum Laude||3.70 - 3.84||Gold|
|Summa Cum Laude||3.85 - 4.00||White|
Students who meet the criteria above can purchase commencement honor cords at the OSU Beaver Store.
For more information regarding degree questions, please see the page Earning a Degree at Oregon State University.
If you have earned a minor or your major has an option/concentration, it will appear on your official transcripts but is not printed on your diploma or in the commencement program.
Order your cap and gown from the OSU Beaver Bookstore. Make sure to have your order delivered to your Bend address. Order now to allow plenty of time for the cap and gown to arrive prior to graduation day.
Announcements are available at Jostens. Be sure and pick the announcement for Bend.
We know that family and friends are important to our students. However, based on new space considerations, all graduates will start with six (6) tickets for guests, with the potentially availability to secure more during finals week.
We have elected not to hold a mandatory rehearsal. This means that we cannot be flexible with walk-ins on graduation day. If you have not sent in your RSVP and you show up at the ceremony the day of the event, you will not be able to walk. In place of the rehearsal, please plan to report in cap and gown, ready to walk, promptly at 8:30 a.m. so that we have time to check you in and get everyone assembled in the proper walking order.
How does it all work? Please review ceremony instructions on this webpage before June 12.
Commencement is held the Sunday following the conclusion of finals week. Final grades for courses required to meet degree requirements for spring graduates are not yet available, however, we strive to provide diplomas to as many students as possible at commencement. Towards this end the Office of the Registrar collects preliminary grades for pending graduates during the 6th week of the term. These preliminary grades are utilized for a preliminary review of degree requirements. Pending spring term graduates who meet degree requirements based on this preliminary review will receive their diploma at the commencement ceremony. Students who do not meet requirements during the preliminary review are welcome to attend the ceremony, they will receive a letter in their diploma case that states that their diploma is pending a final review of their requirements.
Note: If you are a spring graduate and taking COCC classes during the spring term that are required to complete your degree requirements, your diploma will not be available at commencement.
Students should park at the main OSU-Cascades hourly parking lot off of Century Drive Additional Parking is available at the Simpson Drive lot (long-term lot). See Location and Parking page for more information.
We love dogs as much as you do, but please respect that this is a no-dog event.
Balloons are not allowed as they obstruct the view of other guests.
There will be the possibility of bag searches by campus security.
No drones are permitted on the Les Schwab property.
In line with our sustainability efforts we encourage all of your guests to bring their own reusable water bottles. We will have a water fountain available for refilling.
