OSU has a long tradition of making a great effort to give each student his or her own diploma at the ceremony. For this to work, everyone has to do their part. Students are required to RSVP to OSU-Cascades so we know who is coming. Graduates will have assigned seating. On commencement day we will not able to accommodate students who have not RSVP'd.
If you RSVP that you will walk and then decide not to, please let Enrollment Services know by 5 p.m., Wednesday, June 12 so we can adjust the seating assignments.
Eligible students include: students who graduated fall 2018 and winter 2019, and students who have applied to graduate for spring 2019 and summer 2019. Undergraduate students who have completed 135 units at the end of winter 2019 and have applied to graduate fall 2019 will also be eligible to walk.
All students are required to wear traditional regalia. You must RSVP before you will be able to purchase regalia.
The black gowns used by COCC are identical and we encourage you to re-use the same gown to save money and promote sustainability. You will need to order the tassel for your cap through the Beaver Store to make sure you have the correct color. If you are graduating with your master’s, the gown is different. Online orders can be placed starting April 27.
Undergraduate and graduate students may purchase regalia from the Beaver Store in Corvallis. Make sure you choose the "OSU-Cascades Regalia" button. You must order no later than June 5 to ensure delivery in time for the ceremony.
Baccalaureate candidates, the tassel for your cap will reflect the color of the College of your major program. You will select your major program as part of the ordering process. If you have a COCC graduation cap and gown, you may reuse it. Please order a new tassel so that you will have the correct color for your College. If you do not need to order the regalia bundle, please email or call the Beaverstore to order individual pieces.
Master candidates, the color of your master's hood reflects your program. You will select your program as part of the ordering process. If you do not need to order the regalia bundle, please email or call the Beaverstore to order individual pieces.
High achieving students are recognized through the posting of a title of academic distinction to their degree award and through the wearing of an academic honor cord as part of their graduation regalia. Grade point averages are computed on the basis of all work attempted at OSU. Undergraduates who have completed at least 90 credits at OSU or 60 upper-division credits at OSU, and who have an OSU cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, are awarded an OSU degree with distinction as follows:
|Academic Distinction||OSU GPA Range||
Honor Cord Color
|Cum Laude||3.50 - 3.69||Orange|
|Magna Cum Laude||3.70 - 3.84||Gold|
|Summa Cum Laude||3.85 - 4.00||White|
Honor cords will be handed out to eligible students at check-in on the day of commencement. Honors are recomputed for posting of transcripts after spring 2018 grades have been processed.
Note: Students participating in ceremonies who have applied for summer 2018 or fall 2018 graduation are not eligible for honors this academic year. If you are eligible for honors, it will be posted on your transcripts once your degree is verified.
If you have earned a minor or your major has an option/concentration, it will appear on your official transcripts but is not printed on your diploma or in the commencement program.
Announcements are available at Jostens. Be sure and pick the announcement for Bend.
We know that family and friends are important to our students. Therefore, we are not capping the number of guests you can bring.
We have elected not to hold a mandatory rehearsal. This means that we cannot be flexible with walk-ins on graduation day. If you have not sent in your RSVP and you show up at the ceremony the day of the event, you will not be able to walk. In place of the rehearsal, please plan to report in cap and gown, ready to walk, promptly at 2 p.m. so that we have time to check you in and get everyone assembled in the proper walking order.
Students should park in the Old Mill District shopping area, then walk across bridge and follow signs to check-in. See Location and Parking page for more information.
We love dogs as much as you do, but please respect that this is a no-dog event.
GradImages, the official commencement photographer, will photograph all graduates at the ceremony. After commencement, you can view pictures online at gradimages.com or via email. Pre-register your email prior to the ceremony and GradImages will email picture proofs within 24 hours after the ceremony.
Commencement is held the Sunday following the conclusion of finals week. Final grades for courses required to meet degree requirements for spring graduates are not yet available, however, we strive to provide diplomas to as many students as possible at commencement. Towards this end the Office of the Registrar collects preliminary grades for pending graduates during the 6th week of the term. These preliminary grades are utilized for a preliminary review of degree requirements. Pending spring term graduates who meet degree requirements based on this preliminary review will receive their diploma at the commencement ceremony. Students who do not meet requirements during the preliminary review are welcome to attend the ceremony, they will receive a letter in their diploma case that states that their diploma is pending a final review of their requirements.
Note: If you are a spring graduate and taking COCC classes during the spring term that are required to complete your degree requirements, your diploma will not be available at commencement.
Should you decide not to attend the ceremony, you may also have your diploma mailed for a fee, or you may request delivery of your diploma to Enrollment Services at OSU-Cascades at no charge. Please return this form to Enrollment Services at OSU-Cascades. Please note that this is a free service provided by staff traveling to main campus, and we will not be able to guarantee when your diploma will arrive in Bend.
