6:30 p.m., March 31
Riverhouse on the Deschutes
Join us for a special evening with one of the world’s leading and most influential climate scientists to learn why we must work together now to reverse decades of climate inaction and how we can still prevent the worst impacts of a climate crisis.
In 1998 atmospheric scientist Michael Mann introduced the iconic “hockey stick” graph, showing a steep rise in global temperatures beginning in the 20th century. The graph became a symbol of humanity's contribution to global warming and altered the trajectory of Mann’s career from hard scientist to public advocate, too.
Mann is a distinguished professor of atmospheric science and director of the Earth System Science Center at Pennsylvania State University.
He has received numerous honors for contributing to our scientific understandings of climate change, including the Stephen H. Schneider Award for Outstanding Climate Science Communication from Climate One, the Award for Public Engagement with Science from the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Climate Communication Prize from the American Geophysical Union. In 2020 he was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. He is the author of several book on climate topics, most recently of “The New Climate War: The Fight to Take Back our Planet.”
