Course Description

For backcountry travelers, Wilderness Safety is a workshop as important as the 10 essentials you carry in your pack. Learn how to stay safe in wilderness and practice critical skills to better your chances of survival in the first 24 to 72 hours following a backcountry incident. OSU-Cascades’ outdoor experts Julia Conrad and Bryce Mitchell will lead this workshop and cover topics ranging from the psychology of survival, shelter and protection, navigation, search and rescue, sustenance, first aid and fire building. Anyone who spends time outdoors can benefit from the practical, and perhaps life-saving knowledge gained from this workshop.
