Class of 2019 distinguished by record diversity and first-generation graduates
OSU-Cascades will graduate its most diverse class ever during its 18th commencement ceremony Sunday, June 16, including a record number of graduates who are the first in their family to earn a college degree. The graduating class of 331 students is the third largest in OSU-Cascades’ history. A record 40% are first generation college graduates, and 20% identify as U.S. minorities.

2018 Employee Awards celebrate faculty, staff contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion
Jenna Goldsmith, writing instructor and co-chair of the campus Diversity Committee received the inaugural Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award. Goldsmith was recognized for increasing social justice and Safezone training opportunities for students and employees, as well as for her work with the OSU-Cascades graduate teaching program and the High Desert Education Service District to cultivate inclusive learning environments for K-12 LGBTQ students. Goldsmith is also the faculty advisor to the student Equal Rights Alliance organization.

Bahman Abbasi, a researcher at OSU-Cascades will lead a team working on turning salt water into drinking water as part of a $21 million national effort.

The Distinguished Student Award is one of the top honors given to students by OSU-Cascades faculty. The award recognizes one graduating student from each degree area for outstanding academic achievement and contributions to their field.

One third of OSU-Cascades graduates are first in family to earn bachelor’s degree
At its 17th Commencement on Sunday, June 17, Oregon State University - Cascades will honor the second largest graduating class in its 17-year history, a class of 368 students. One third of the undergraduates – 91 students – will be the first in their families to earn a bachelor’s degree.

Central Oregon tech leader Preston Callicott to deliver commencement address
Preston Callicott, chief executive officer of Bend-based Five Talent Software and active  community volunteer, will provide the keynote address at the Oregon State University - Cascades commencement ceremonies on Sunday, June 17. He is the son of an American father and a Colombian mother, and the first on his paternal side to earn a college degree.
