While new technologies have changed how artists create and present their craft, theory and historical references can still serve as an important lens for the creator. On Wednesday, March 2 in a presentation called “Nothing is Sacred: Bumblebee from Transformers to John Dewey” Oregon State University – Cascades art instructor Kiel Fletcher will explore how he uses traditional references, as well as the interconnectivity of form, color and popular culture to shape the viewing experience.

Feedback from members of the public will be one of the criteria used as Oregon State University – Cascades selects the design and engineering team that will create a long range development plan for the university’s expanded campus in Bend, Ore.
Three teams will present their skills and qualifications to members of the campus advisory groups and members of the public on Thursday, Feb. 4 at the Trinity Episcopal Church, Brooks room on Wall Street in Bend.
Oregon State University - Cascades announced Tuesday that it will proceed with the purchase of 46 acres of property in Bend that adjoins the university’s new campus currently under construction.
The announcement was made at a meeting of OSU-Cascades’ board of advisors.
“The potential addition of this property has been considered and discussed publicly for some time,” said Becky Johnson, OSU-Cascades vice president. “This purchase demonstrates Oregon State’s commitment to fully bring higher education to Central Oregon and serve 3,000 to 5,000 students by 2025.”
Students who are considering attending Oregon State University – Cascades this fall are encouraged to apply for admission by February 1 to be fully considered for scholarship and financial aid opportunities.
OSU-Cascades provided scholarships and gift aid to nearly three-quarters of students taking classes in the 2015 academic year, including over $225,000 in scholarships through the Oregon State University Foundation. Almost 300 students received support from OSU’s Bridge to Success program, which covers tuition and fees, and is based on financial need.
The impacts of climate change are felt particularly by indigenous communities that rely on the surrounding water and land for their livelihoods. At Oregon State University – Cascades upcoming Science Pub on Tuesday, Feb. 16, anthropologist Elizabeth Marino will present “The First Victims of Climate Change,” an exploration of how one coastal community in Alaska is facing the challenges of relocation due to the impact of climate change.
The community advisory groups that have been working to create a vision, set priorities and develop recommendations for Oregon State University – Cascades’ long range development plan will share their conclusions in a community meeting from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21 at Aspen Hall on Shevlin Park Road in Bend.
The groups have focused on the areas of arts, culture and enrichment; community integration; sustainability; and health and wellness.
The Oregon State University - Cascades Board of Advisors will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 26 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Graduate & Research Center, Rm. 227.
The meeting will update board members on progress toward academic, enrollment, development and marketing goals for the campus, and provide an overview of the expansion effort.
