Official fall enrollment numbers show continued growth at OSU-Cascades

Oregon State University – Cascades is now serving a total of 1,157 undergraduate and graduate students.  Included in this official fall enrollment count are 1,016 students taking classes at OSU-Cascades -- including a cohort of 60 first-ever freshmen -- as well as 141 dually-admitted students taking classes at Central Oregon Community College in preparation for transferring to OSU-Cascades.

More than 50 veterans pursuing degrees at OSU-Cascades

More than 50 students who receive veteran education benefits at Oregon State University - Cascades this fall served in the military.  

Among them are students pursuing degrees in accountancy, energy systems engineering, natural resources and tourism and outdoor leadership, who each are featured in online stories.

In total, 61 students at OSU-Cascades access veteran tuition benefits, including 9 who are accessing dependent benefits.

Matthew Carter, an accounting major and student veteran, hopes to earn his degree in 2017.

OPB and OSU host Veterans Day discussion in Bend, public invited

Students and faculty at Oregon State University – Cascades who served in the military or who provide services to veterans will join a live taping of a Veterans Day “Think Out Loud” discussion hosted by Oregon Public Broadcasting and the OSU School of History, Philosophy and Religion.  

The program will feature a panel of veterans, experts and counselors who will explore the history, politics, challenges and changes in service and national citizenship during and after times of war and conflict.

Members of the public are invited to contribute to the conversation.  

OSU-Cascades invites area residents to participate in community integration advisory group

Oregon State University - Cascades is looking for Central Oregon residents interested in helping to guide the successful integration of the new, four-year campus into the local community. 

The Community Integration Advisory Group will look at creating connections between OSU-Cascades and surrounding neighborhoods as well as with the larger community of Bend and Central Oregon. Applications for positions on the advisory group will be accepted through Nov. 12.

Experts in geotech, engineering discuss due diligence efforts on 46-acre former pumice mine site

Experts who have analyzed the 46-acre site that Oregon State University - Cascades is considering for its expansion will present their findings and answer questions from the public during a panel discussion.  The discussion will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26 in Cascades Hall, room 107, on College Way in Bend.

Campus Expansion Advisory Committee to provide input on next phase of community engagement

The Campus Expansion Advisory Committee will reconvene to provide input on a plan for the next steps of Oregon State University – Cascades’ community engagement process, which will inform long range planning for the growing university.  The meeting will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16 in Cascades Hall, rooms 246-247, on College Way in Bend.

The committee and its task force members will also hear how nearly 100 of their recommendations are being incorporated into the new OSU-Cascades campus.

What the Great Cascadia Earthquake Could Mean to Central Oregon

A major earthquake on the Oregon coast will have far reaching impact, including in Central Oregon.  Join geology, emergency and preparedness experts at The Tower Theatre at 7pm on October 20 for Shaken III: What are You and Your Business doing to Prepare?, a presentation exploring how a severe earthquake in the next 50 years will affect those living and working in and around Central Oregon.

Oregon State University - Cascades’ Low-Residency Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and Caldera Arts will showcase their ongoing collaboration and focus on the artist’s life during an open house from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 14.  The theme of the event is “Art, Amnesia, Education”.
