Oregon Court of Appeals affirms OSU-Cascades siting process

Oregon State University - Cascades received word today that the Oregon Court of Appeals has affirmed the land use process related to OSU’s new regional campus in Bend.

“This is great news because it clears the way for us to focus 100 percent on our efforts to expand higher education opportunities in Central Oregon,” said Becky Johnson, OSU-Cascades vice president.

OSU-Cascades Advisory Board to Meet

The Oregon State University - Cascades Board of Advisors will hold a business meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the Graduate & Research Center, Room 227.

The meeting will update board members on the campus’s academic, enrollment, development and marketing goals and provide an overview of the expansion effort. The advisory board meeting is open to the public.  

Free bus pass, other investments, aim to reduce vehicles driven to campus

Students and faculty at Oregon State University - Cascades will begin the academic year with new identification cards that will each include an annual transit pass for all Cascades East Transit bus routes in Bend. 

The passes will be provided at no additional charge to campus community members to encourage bus commuting.  The student passes were funded through student fees.  Identification cards will be distributed to students and campus employees beginning this month. 

Students seeking MFA in Creative Writing invited to open house

Individuals interested in applying to the Low Residency Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Oregon State University – Cascades are invited to an open house to learn about the program’s curriculum, application requirements and financial aid.

The open house is slated for Thursday, Sept. 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will take place at the Graduate & Research Center at 650 S.W. Columbia Avenue in Bend.

Attendees will meet with the program director, Emily Carr, as well as admissions representatives, academic advisors and current students.

Art and science of wood spalting explored at OSU-Cascades Science Pub

Oregon State University - Cascades’ Science Pubs are where community members can meet some of OSU’s leading researchers and learn firsthand about the impact of their work and discoveries.

In the upcoming Science Pub, Sara Robinson, an assistant professor of wood science in OSU’s College of Forestry, will explore the art and science of spalted wood in a presentation called “Living Color” on Tuesday, Aug.18 at McMenamins in Bend.

A new Leading Edge scholarship fund at Oregon State University – Cascades is available to students entering the campus’s first freshman class this fall. Leading Edge scholarships provide $1,000 each to qualified students to assist with tuition, books and other costs, and recognize the pioneering role of OSU-Cascades’ inaugural freshman class.
