Students and faculty clean up new campus site

In recognition of Earth Week and in anticipation of their new campus in Bend, Oregon State University – Cascades students, faculty and staff will join forces to clean up the selected campus site and experience the layout of the proposed buildings through markers on the property and renderings of the facilities.


The clean-up takes place today, April 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1500 SW Chandler Ave. 

OSU President Ed Ray to deliver State of the University Address in Bend

In his annual State of the University Address in Bend on April 30, Oregon State University President Edward J. Ray will provide an update on the university’s worldwide accomplishments in the past year and review efforts underway that are advancing environmental progress, health and wellness, and economic prosperity for Oregon and beyond.  He will also highlight OSU-Cascades' expansion to a four-year university and innovations already underway in Central Oregon.

Harold Ashford Receives Dan Poling Service Award

A well-known and respected leader in Bend, Harold Ashford was recently presented the Dan Poling Service Award by the Oregon State University Alumni Association.  Named for an influential dean of men who served OSU for more than five decades, the award is given in recognition of those who have volunteered a significant amount of time to OSU, carrying on Poling's legacy of dedication to the university.

PEN/Faulkner finalist and MFA faculty member publishes second novel

T. Geronimo Johnson, a writer and core faculty member in the Oregon State University – Cascades Master of Fine Arts in creative writing program is celebrating the release of his second novel, “Welcome to Braggsville”.

A 2013 PEN/Faulkner finalist for his first novel, "Hold It 'Til It Hurts," Johnson writes about race in America.  Published by William Morrow, “Welcome to Braggsville” is a dark, socially provocative comedic novel about college students who attempt to stage a lynching during a Civil War reenactment.

Bike loan program launches sustainable transportation efforts

A pilot bike loan program is one of the first tangible ways Oregon State University - Cascades will encourage the campus community to lessen dependency on personal vehicles for nearby meetings and errands.  Vivid orange cruiser bikes, named Benny, Bernice, Betty and Norman, will be available for use beginning in March for faculty and staff.  The bikes are each equipped with a large basket, fenders, and an odometer.

Gifts help launch OSU-Cascades net zero campus initiative

Lee and Connie Kearney of Vancouver, Wash., have committed a $500,000 lead gift toward an initiative to develop Oregon State University - Cascades’ new campus as one that exemplifies energy conservation and is positioned for a net zero future.
“As OSU alumni and Central Oregon homeowners, Connie and I are very committed to the success of OSU-Cascades.  This sustainability initiative will provide a living laboratory for students and faculty interested in energy conservation and independence, and is very aligned with Central Oregon’s values,“ said Mr. Kearney.

OSU-Cascades receives grant to study suicide prevention and firearms

More than half of the people who die by suicide nationally see their primary care provider within 30 days of taking their life, with a firearm used most often as the weapon. To help address this issue, a team of researchers from Oregon State University – Cascades received a grant to investigate methods of promoting firearm safety within primary care settings for patients at risk of suicide. The study will focus specifically on rural primary care facilities.

In the final meeting of the Oregon State University Cascades Campus Expansion Advisory Committee today, members of the committee and its task forces will be recognized for their 17-month collaborative effort to advise the branch campus as it plans for a physical campus that meets the diverse needs of the surrounding community, and attracts and serves current and future students and faculty.

Oregon State University – Cascades releases annual fact sheet

Oregon State University - Cascades' annual fact sheet, a compilation of enrollment and demographic statistics for the 2014-2015 academic year, is now available.  The fact sheet includes highlights of the most frequently asked questions about the branch campus and a profile of the student body.
