Official fall enrollment numbers show uptick in headcount at OSU-Cascades

Oregon State University - Cascades posted official fall enrollment numbers this week, showing a slight increase over anticipated total enrollment.  The campus has a total enrollment of 1,039 students, including 238 students taking lower-level courses at Central Oregon Community College in preparation for transferring to OSU-Cascades.  This reflects an overall enrollment increase of 11 percent and a 39 percent increase in freshmen and sophomores.

Oregon State University - Cascades launched the 2012-2013 academic year with an anticipated enrollment of just over 1,000 students, including 237 students taking lower-level courses at Central Oregon Community College in preparation for transferring to OSU-Cascades.  This reflects an overall enrollment increase of 9.7 percent and a 37 percent increase in freshmen and sophomores.

OSU-Cascades takes first step in creating sports programs

One of the most compelling aspects of a university for many people is its athletic programs, which create a focus around which the university and surrounding communities rally. Oregon State University-Cascades has taken the first step in developing a club sports program that will compete with other colleges and universities by signing an agreement with the Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation. The teams may begin as early as this fall.

OSU-Cascades receives $1 million for campus expansion

 The Tykeson Family Charitable Trust has committed $1 million to the expansion of the Oregon State University - Cascades campus into a four-year university, announced OSU President Ed Ray today in a news conference. The conference was held at the Old Mill District, near the site of the envisioned expansion.

This is the first million-dollar gift ever to OSU-Cascades and the Tykeson foundation's second gift in support of the campus.

OSU-Cascades changes name of energy degree

In order to better reflect the focus of the energy degree program and to meet the standards of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Oregon State University - Cascades has changed the name of the program to energy systems engineering. The name change does not affect course curriculum.

The new title better conveys the program's emphasis on energy systems and processes to prospective students and potential employers.

OSU-Cascades receives $700,000 DOE award for harnessing natural gas for vehicle fuel

A researcher at Oregon State University - Cascades will lead a major new research initiative on a vehicle-based natural gas refueling system, a $700,000 project to create technology that would use the vehicle engine itself to compress natural gas.

The project will be led by energy systems engineering professor Chris Hagen, with support from Colorado State University, and is one of the largest research awards yet received by OSU's branch campus in Bend.

OSU-Cascades faculty member receives OSU's highest teaching award

Ron Reuter, an associate professor in the natural resources program at Oregon State University - Cascades was recently named OSU's 2012 Elizabeth P. Ritchie Distinguished Professor.  The award is the highest teaching honor given by Oregon State University and encourages and recognizes outstanding contributions to undergraduate education. OSU-Cascades names Chris Hagen assistant professor in energy engineering management program

Chris Hagen, a faculty researcher whose work focuses around energy systems, advanced internal combustion engines, unconventional fuels, applied thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, was named by Oregon State University - Cascades to join its recently launched energy engineering management program as assistant professor.
