OSU-Cascades to host First Peoples Celebration with Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs on Oct. 11

Oregon State University – Cascades will host a First Peoples Celebration on Oct. 11, an event that explores and celebrates the history and culture of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs.

Event activities are free to the public and will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. in Bruckner Courtyard on the OSU-Cascades campus. 

OSU-Cascades has an acknowledged partnership with the Confederated Tribes, which recognizes the campus’s commitment to ensuring that OSU-Cascades is “of enduring benefit to the people on whose ancestral lands it is now located.” 

The First Peoples Celebration includes a showcase of traditional regalia and Native dancing.

Sara Harvey (she/her) received her Bachelor of Arts in political science and history from the University of Oregon. In her time as a student, she worked in visits and orientation, which drew her to pursue work in higher education upon graduation. 

In her free time, Sara enjoys reading, watching football, going for walks, and finding new places to explore around town. 

Nationally acclaimed author Hannah Pittard to read at OSU-Cascades on Sept. 25

The acclaimed novelist, short story writer and memoirist Hannah Pittard will read from her work at Oregon State University–Cascades on Sept. 25 as part of the Distinguished Visiting Writer series.

The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Charles McGrath Family Atrium in Edward J. Ray Hall and will be followed by a book signing. The event is free to the public, but registration is requested.

Pittard’s fiction and nonfiction have earned national attention for their wit, emotional resonance and fearless storytelling.

OSU-Cascades recognized for innovative campus redevelopment project

Oregon State University - Cascades has been recognized for its novel approach to remediating the former Deschutes County demolition landfill and pumice mine, and transforming them into buildable land for the growing campus.

OSU-Cascades is one of 10 award winners across the country recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the International City/County Management Association for innovative approaches in transforming brownfield sites. 

OSU-Cascades' land remediation was one of 10 brownfield redevelopment projects across the country recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the International City/County Management Association.
