OSU-Cascades to graduate more than 340 students, nearing 6,000 total graduates since founding

Oregon State University – Cascades will graduate 340 students at its 24th commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 15, bringing the total number of graduates to 5,972 since OSU-Cascades was founded in 2001.

In addition, with the class of 2025, OSU-Cascades has trained and contributed more than 800 K-12 teachers and more than 500 mental health and school counselors to serve in Central Oregon and the state.

The class is the fourth largest in OSU-Cascades’ 24-year history.

OSU-Cascades' class of 2025 included 342 graduates. More than 260 will participate in the commencement ceremony on June 15.

A new study shows that Oregon State University - Cascades contributed $89.9 million in economic impact to the Central Oregon region in 2024, reflecting the campus’s growth, spending, research and other contributions to the surrounding community. 

The report, commissioned by Oregon State University details the collective impact of the university’s contributions to the economy and society, which totaled more than $3.5 billion.

A new economic analysis shows OSU-Cascades contributes $89.9 million in economic impact to the tri-county region.

OSU-Cascades offers campus tours to community groups

Oregon State University – Cascades’ community tour program will continue throughout 2025 in response to community interest in developments underway at the growing campus.

The free tours are for groups of 12 to 24 participants and will be offered monthly, generally on fourth Fridays, and take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Registration is required.

The remaining 2025 tour dates are Jun. 27, Jul. 25, Aug. 22, Sep. 26, Oct. 24 and Nov. 21.

OSU-Cascades to host Indigenous author Beth Piatote for conversation on stories and language on May 19

Oregon State University – Cascades will host Nimi:pu, also known as Nez Perce author Beth Piatote for an evening of storytelling and discussion on May 19. 

The event, titled “Indigenous Futures, Ancient Echoes: A Conversation in Story and Language,” will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles McGrath Family Atrium in Edward J. Ray Hall. It is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Catered hors d'oeuvres will be served.

Beth Piatote wil speak at an event on May 19. She is an associate professor of English and comparative literature at University of California Berkeley.

Oregon State University – Cascades will host award-winning comic book writer Kelly Sue DeConnick for a lecture on Monday, May 12.

“An Evening with Kelly Sue DeConnick” will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Charles McGrath Family Atrium in Edward J. Ray Hall. It is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

OSU-Cascades hosts OSU metabolic health researcher for Science Pub talk May 13

Metabolic health and healthy aging will be the topic of Oregon State University – Cascades’ Science Pub on May 13.

Presenter Sean Newsom is an associate professor and integrative metabolic physiologist in OSU’s College of Health. He is also co-director of the Translational Metabolism Research Laboratory, where researchers investigate the molecular and cellular basis of metabolic disease and lifestyle interventions.

OSU-Cascades to honor Mark Kralj posthumously with special recognition at commencement

Oregon State University – Cascades will posthumously honor Mark Kralj, a former member of the OSU-Cascades Advocacy and Advisory Board, during its 24th annual commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 15.

Emily Kralj, Kralj’s daughter, will accept the Distinguished Service Award on behalf of the Kralj family. Mark died on Oct. 1, 2024. The annual award honors individuals, businesses or organizations who have made exceptional contributions to OSU-Cascades, Central Oregon, Oregon or the world.

Mark Kralj, who was a member of OSU-Cascades' Advocacy and Advisory Board, will be honored posthumously at OSU-Cascades' Commencement Ceremony on June 15.

OSU-Cascades to host open house focused on net zero energy campus

Oregon State University – Cascades will host a public open house to share its progress and plans toward a net zero energy campus. 

The event will take place from 4-6 p.m., May 15 in the Charles McGrath Family Atrium of Edward J. Ray Hall. 

During the open house, participants will view displays that explain the engineering behind the net zero energy goal, meet with campus planners and energy experts, and have an opportunity to provide feedback.

OSU-Cascades will host an open house to share plans and seek feedback on its net zero energy goal.
