OSU-Cascades awarded $2 million to monitor national park ecological data

Researchers at Oregon State University – Cascades received a $2 million grant from the National Park Service to monitor and analyze data gathered by the agency, assess the ecological health and resilience of parks and better understand management practices that can help parks adapt to ecological threats and conditions.

With the grant, scientists at OSU-Cascades will harness data collected by hundreds of NPS scientists across thousands of projects at more than 280 national parks.

OSU-Cascades third annual golf-putting tournament to take place May 16

Golfers of all skill levels are invited to register for Oregon State University – Cascades’ third annual golf-putting tournament on May 16.

The tournament will start at 9 a.m. at Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond, on the resort’s 18-hole putting course. The event is open to community members of all ages, as well as OSU and OSU-Cascades alumni, and OSU-Cascades students and employees. 

Veteran, Project Recover leader Derek Abbey to speak at OSU-Cascades 24th commencement ceremony

Derek Abbey, a retired military veteran, and president and CEO of a nonprofit that helps repatriate the remains of U.S. service members, will give the address at the Oregon State University – Cascades commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 15.

Derek Abbey will be the commencement speaker at OSU-Cascades' 24th commencement ceremony.

Toby Maxwell

Dr.  Toby Maxwell is a soil scientist and ecosystem ecologist focused on co-producing research with land managers in arid and semi-arid landscapes of the Western U.S. He applies an understanding of plant-soil feedbacks to assist with restoration of upland landscapes that are under threat from plant invasions and wildfire in the context of a changing climate.

Campus child care center under construction at OSU-Cascades

An on-campus child care center will serve children ages infant through preschool and is anticipated to open in August.

The Little Kits Early Care and Education Center will serve children ages infant through preschool and will be administered by the OSU Family Resource Center, which operates early care and education centers on OSU’s Corvallis campus and at the Little Beavs Early Learning Center on the Bend campus.

Construction is underway on the Little Kits Early Care and Education Center, which is anticipated to open in August.
