Prior to working in higher education, Alison spent many years working for the National Park Service, specializing in fire ecology and plant restoration. She also was an outdoor education instructor, working for many school programs and nonprofit organizations.

Alison serves on the OSU-Cascades Sustainability Committee and is the advisor for the student-led Sustainability Club. She also collaborates with community partners to support sustainability efforts on campus.
