OSU-Cascades Advocacy and Advisory Board to meet April 12

The Oregon State University - Cascades Advocacy and Advisory Board will receive updates on ongoing  legislative advocacy work for a future Student Success Center and on the campus’s strategic planning initiative at its April 12 meeting.

The meeting will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. It is open to the public and will be held virtually in keeping with OSU, state and local public health guidance.

Vitamin C facts and fiction  will be the topic of the April 12 Oregon State University – Cascades Science Pub.

The virtual event will feature a talk by Alexander Michels, a research associate and communications officer for Oregon State’s Linus Pauling Institute. His presentation, a joint effort of Oregon State University in Corvallis and OSU-Cascades in Bend, is called: “Vitamin C and Health: Fact versus Fiction.”

OSU-Cascades Summer Academy for high school students opens for registration

Registration is now open for the Summer Academy at Oregon State University – Cascades, a program for high school students that includes classes and outdoor recreation experiences in Central Oregon.

Participants who successfully complete the Summer Academy will receive a $500 scholarship – available the fall immediately after high school graduation – toward tuition at OSU-Cascades.

Science activism and environmental justice topics of OSU-Cascades Science Pub talk

Science activism and the role it plays in aiding communities vulnerable to environmental risks will be the topic of the Oregon State University - Cascades Science Pub on March 8.

Science Pub speaker Rob Figueroa's study sites include Mesa Verde National Park, where Ancestral Pueblo people made their home for 700 years.

OSU-Cascades to host conversation about Oregon’s historic Black exclusion laws and their impact

In recognition of Black History Month, Oregon State University – Cascades will host a virtual forum titled “Oregon’s Black Exclusion Laws: How does this history impact diversity in Oregon today?”

The free event, which takes place from 6-8 p.m. on Feb. 24, is hosted in partnership with Love Your Neighbor, a grassroots organization that encourages Central Oregonians to get to know people of color in their community.

The Love Your Neighbor forum will be moderated by Erika McCalpine, director of the OSU-Cascades Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Laboratory.

Science Pub to explore how 3D printing is transforming soft robotic technology

At Oregon State University – Cascades next Science Pub, OSU materials scientist Stephanie Walker will share how new materials and processes used in 3D printing are creating soft robots that are changing wearable technology, medicine and the art of squeezing into tiny places.

The Science Pub, “The Promise of 3D Printing Soft Robots,” will be offered free via YouTube Live from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 18.
