The Oregon State University - Cascades Advocacy and Advisory Board will meet on October 17.

The meeting will focus on OSU’s Strategic Plan 4.0 which provides a roadmap for how the university will continue to advance research, innovation, engagement and higher education through 2023. Discussion will explore and highlight how OSU-Cascades can contribute to the plan as it continues to expand its campus. 

Rod Ray to deliver evening workshops focused on leadership development

Rod Ray, a Central Oregon community leader and former president and chief executive of Bend Research, will conduct a four-session leadership course this fall at Oregon State University – Cascades for managers and team leaders working in the business or nonprofit sectors.

“Fundamentals of Leadership” starts on Oct. 16 and will be offered from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. on Wednesdays through Nov. 6 in Obsidian Hall, Room 204 on the OSU-Cascades campus.  Registration is $79 plus a $35 application fee.

Science Pub explores research at OSU-Cascades to provide clean water where it is needed most

Around the globe, fresh water is increasingly scarce and untreated wastewater creates mounting public health challenges. At Oregon State University – Cascades’ upcoming Science Pub, researcher Bahman Abbasi will discuss efforts underway at the Bend campus that may help communities around the world in need of clean water.

The Science Pub, “Modular and Portable: A New Way to Help Water Stressed Communities,” will take place on Tuesday, October 15 in Father Luke’s Room at McMenamins Old St. Francis in Bend.

Bahman Abbasi is an assistant professor in the energy systems engineering program at OSU-Cascades.

Former NASA leader to present on spaceborne observations of planet Earth

Detailed images of the Earth’s changing oceans, atmosphere and land processes, captured by NASA satellites over the past half century -- from as far as a million miles away and as near as the International Space Station --   will be shared in a presentation in Bend on Oct. 14.

Hoary bat numbers declining at rate that suggests species in jeopardy in Pacific Northwest

The hoary bat, the species of bat most frequently found dead at wind power facilities, is declining at a rate that threatens its long-term future in the Pacific Northwest, according to a novel and comprehensive research collaboration based at Oregon State University – Cascades.

The findings, published today in Ecology and Evolution, result from modeling based on field surveys across Oregon and Washington that began in 2003.

OSU-Cascades fall Community Learning workshops open for registration

Oregon State University – Cascades’ fall adult community learning workshops begin in September and  are open for registration. Geared toward personal and professional development, the workshops cover topics including health, film and art, leadership development, and equity and inclusion.

The workshops will be led by OSU-Cascades faculty and local industry leaders and experts.

Oregon State University – Cascades  has given its 2019 Employee Awards to five faculty and staff members for outstanding contributions in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion; outreach; outstanding staff engagement and support; scholarship and creative activity; and teaching excellence.

OSU Mobility Lab, local partners launch free on-demand Ride Bend service

Visitors and residents near downtown Bend will have access beginning Monday to a free, on-demand, curb-to-curb transportation option. The pilot service was designed as the next iteration of Ride Bend by the Mobility Lab at Oregon State University – Cascades with support from public partners.

The new Ride Bend service will launch July 1 at an event at 11 a.m. in the Old Mill District, near the footbridge.
