Kelly Sparks was recognized today with Oregon State University’s Beaver Champion Award for her leadership in building OSU-Cascades’ campus in Bend.

The Beaver Champion Award is Oregon State’s President's award, which recognizes an individual or individuals who continually demonstrate outstanding effort and achievement of excellence, extra effort beyond that requested, and performance of the highest quality.

New students start academic year with Move In Day, Welcome Week and Convocation

New students at Oregon State University – Cascades will kick off the academic year  with Move In Day, Convocation and a slate of helpful workshops, opportunities to meet faculty, social events, outings and team challenges.

The activities are all part of Welcome Week, a program that connects new students to the campus community and to services that can help them succeed, particularly during the sometimes stressful first year of college.

A new Mobility Lab at Oregon State University – Cascades may help area leaders identify more convenient, cost-effective and sustainable ways for residents to travel within the region, potentially increasing community livability and helping manage traffic congestion.

Explore botanical life in Oregon at Science Pub

OregonFlora provides a vast digital library of information about plants in Oregon that grow without human or machine cultivation.  At Oregon State University – Cascades’ next Science Pub, OregonFlora director and OSU botanist Linda Hardison will present “What Plants Grow Here?,” a survey of our state’s botanical life.

The Science Pub will take place on September 18 in Father Luke’s Room at McMenamins Old St. Francis in Bend.

OSU pharmacologist to explore the science of marijuana at Science Pub

While marijuana has a long history of cultivation, consumption and regulation, scientists are still learning how the plant's compounds behave in the human body.

At Oregon State University – Cascades’ next Science Pub, OSU College of Pharmacy researcher Jane Ishmael will present “Marijuana as Medicine,” an exploration of current trends in marijuana use and recent progress in understanding how cannabinoids act on the body.

Bike share program expands with sponsors 10 Barrel and SELCO

A year after it expanded for public use, the Zagster bike share program launched by Oregon State University – Cascades will expand again, adding two new bike stations in Bend.  The additional stations are located in the downtown area. 

With the station additions the bike share system has grown to 55 bikes and eight stations.

A celebration will officially open the new stations and take place at 12 p.m. on July 30 at one of the station locations, located on NW Galveston Avenue, between 12th Street and Federal Avenue.

More than 1,800 student and community users take advantage of the bike share program launched by OSU-Cascades.

OSU-Cascades to hold open house for graduate counseling, teaching, writing programs

Individuals interested in seeking a master’s degree in teaching, counseling or creative writing at Oregon State University – Cascades are invited to attend an open house to learn about the programs’ curriculum, application requirements and deadlines, and financial aid.

The open house will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on July 25 at the Graduate & Research Center, 650 SW Columbia Street in Bend.  

Admissions representatives and program faculty will be available to meet with prospective students.

Oregon State University – Cascades recently recognized recipients of the 2018 Employee Awards.  The awards recognize faculty and staff in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion; outreach; outstanding staff; scholarship and creative activity; sustainability; and teaching excellence.

OSU-Cascades announces slate of community learning workshops for fall

Oregon State University – Cascades will offer community learning workshops this fall geared toward personal and professional development.  The workshops were designed by OSU-Cascades faculty and campus experts.

Community members, as well as business and nonprofit professionals, counselors, human resources managers, nonprofit board members, seniors and others are invited to register beginning September 13. 

Individuals who have not previously taken courses at OSU-Cascades can initiate the process sooner by first applying to OSU-Cascades.

Kinesiology instructor Kara Witzke will co-teach a fall workhop focused on healthy aging.
