OSU archaeologist to explore first human entry into the Americas at Science Pub

Archaeological evidence indicates humans were present in the Americas by at least 14,500 years ago, and probably arrived via northeast Asia during the last glacial period. But the timing and route of their entry into the Americas is still not clearly understood. Oregon State University professor and archaeologist Loren Davis will shed new light on this earliest of chapters in human history when he presents “The Search for the First Americans: Perspectives from Western North American” at the OSU-Cascades Science Pub on Jan. 15 in Father Luke's Room at McMenamins Old St.

Sustainability students envision future campus in PhotoVoice exhibit

Students at Oregon State University – Cascades will unveil a gallery of nearly 30 photos that envision how they imagine natural spaces on the university’s expanding campus.  The photos, part of a PhotoVoice class project, will be on display at a public reception from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 30 in the Dining/Academic building’s second floor main hallway.

The photos will remain on display for public viewing.

OSU-Cascades honors student veterans at Veterans and Military Student Recognition Week

To honor student veterans at  Oregon State University – Cascades, the Bend campus is hosting Veterans and Military Student Recognition Week from Nov. 6 to Nov. 11.

Sixty-two students are currently enrolled at the Bend campus as active duty veterans receiving benefits.  An additional 12 students receive veteran dependent benefits. 

Included in the week of activities are:

Fall enrollment report shows nearly a third of OSU-Cascades undergraduate students are first in family to attend college

Oregon State University – Cascades is serving a total of 1,204 students according to its official annual fall enrollment report.  The Bend campus’s enrollment report represents a seven percent overall increase over the previous year and includes 306 first generation undergraduate students  – nearly a third of the total undergraduate student body --  who are the first in their families to attend college.

Landfill acquisition and planned innovation district increases future regional and state impact

Oregon State University President Ed Ray today signed documents regarding the purchase of a 72-acre former Deschutes County landfill that will expand the footprint of the OSU-Cascades campus in Bend to 128 acres. Oregon State University has agreed to buy the landfill and Deschutes County has agreed to sell it to OSU.
