Oregon State University President Edward J. Ray today called on the 2017 Oregon Legislature to provide state bonding to help fund OSU-Cascades campus expansion to meet the demand for higher education in Central Oregon and support the regional economy.

OSU-Cascades new logo to be unveiled at campus-wide event

Oregon State University President Ed Ray will join OSU-Cascades Vice President Becky Johnson, OSU Assistant Vice President of University Relations and Marketing Melody Oldfield, and students, faculty and staff of OSU-Cascades to unveil a new logo and brand for the Bend campus.

The logo unveiling and campus celebration will take place on Wednesday, May 3, starting at 1:00 p.m.

In his annual State of the University Address in Bend on May 3, Oregon State University President Edward J. Ray will provide an update on the university’s worldwide accomplishments in the past year. He will also highlight OSU-Cascades and the vision for an expanded campus that is integrated into the Central Oregon  community, as well as the leadership, innovation and excellence Oregon State brings to the region.

OSU-Cascades Advocacy and Advisory Board to Meet

BEND, Ore. – The Oregon State University - Cascades Advisory Board, now named the Advocacy and Advisory Board, will meet on Tuesday, April 18.

The meeting will update board members on progress toward academic, enrollment, development and marketing goals for the campus, and provide an overview of the expansion effort.

The meeting will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Tykeson Hall, room 111 on the OSU-Cascades campus on Chandler Avenue in Bend.

Nearly 100 prospective students to attend Preview Day at OSU-Cascades

Nearly 100 high school and transfer students who are considering attending Oregon State University - Cascades this fall will attend a Preview Day at the new Bend campus on Friday, March 31. 

During the half-day program, admitted and prospective students will learn about degree programs, on-campus housing, dining plans in the new Beaver Dam, and can meet with academic advisors and admissions staff, talk with current students, and tour the campus. 

OSU-Cascades student athletes wrap up USCSA National Championship

Oregon State University - Cascades club ski and snowboard athletes wrapped up the U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association’s 39th Collegiate National Championship on Sunday, with strong individual performances. During the five-day event, 11 OSU-Cascades athletes competed in alpine, Nordic and snowboard events.

In all, more than 230 alpine athletes, 210 freeski and snowboard athletes, and 100 Nordic athletes from 60 colleges across the country competed at Mt. Bachelor during the national competition.

Eleven athletes from OSU-Cascades participated in the 2017 USCSSA National Championship at Mt. Bachelor.

Scientists and students create, study artificial beaver dams where real dams once stood

By constructing and monitoring artificial beaver dams, scientists and undergraduate students at Oregon State University – Cascades are learning how the health of the surrounding habitat and water can be affected by genuine beaver dams.

Matt Orr, an assistant professor of biology and Ron Reuter, an associate professor of natural resources at OSU-Cascades are leading the study on the South Fork of the Crooked River near Paulina where a team of five undergraduate students installed analog dams and measured soil moisture, stream habitat and water quality.

Scientists and undergraduate students used small boulders, wood posts and branches from nearby willow and juniper trees to construct analog dams, mimicking natural beaver dams.

Flame retardant chemicals may affect social behavior in young children

Some chemicals added to furniture, electronics and numerous other goods to prevent fires may have unintended developmental consequences for young children, according to a pilot study released today.

Researchers from Oregon State University found a significant relationship between social behaviors among children and their exposure to widely used flame retardants, said Molly Kile, an environmental epidemiologist and associate professor in the College of Public Health and Human Sciences at OSU.

Landfill remediation strategy can help reclaim pumice mine, eliminate 29,000 truck trips

Engineering consultants hired by Oregon State University – Cascades to study the viability of developing the Deschutes County demolition landfill have designed a reclamation strategy that could eliminate 29,600 truck trips and minimize the impact of campus development on the community.

A remediation plan for the Deschutes County demolition landfill proposes reusing excavated and cleaned material from the landfill to then grade and fill the pumice mine to the desired level, as well as portions of the landfill.
