OSU-Cascades surplus property available free to non-profits and for public sale

In conjunction with Oregon State University – Cascades’ move to its new campus, a variety of items of surplus office and classroom equipment and supplies will be available to Central Oregon non-profit organizations and then to the public at events this week.

Items include chairs, bookcases, file cabinets, tables and more.

The events will take place in Cascades Hall on the Central Oregon Community College Campus at 2600 NW College Way, Bend, Ore.

Celebration slated for OSU-Cascades and grand opening of Tykeson Hall

A grand opening celebration for Oregon State University – Cascades and its first academic building, Tykeson Hall, will take place at the new campus on Tuesday, Sept. 13 and include a ceremony and community open house.

The OSU-Cascades campus is the first university campus to open in Oregon in a half-century.  Located near downtown Bend, the Old Mill District and business corridors, it encompasses 10-acres and will serve 1,890 students at full capacity.  It is located at 1500 SW Chandler Ave. in Bend, Ore.

OSU-Cascades to offer night classes towards two undergraduate degree programs

Beginning this fall, Oregon State University – Cascades will launch night classes towards degrees in social science, and human development and family sciences. The addition of the classes will allow students to maintain weekday work and family commitments, while completing their bachelor’s degree in the evenings. 

The degree programs provide excellent preparation for individuals wanting to become a teacher, or who are interested in advancing a career, or in working in human services, communications, government or at a non-profit organization.

Grant for biomass energy study moves future campus toward potential net zero energy consumption

A grant from the U.S Department of Agriculture could enable planners at Oregon State University – Cascades to move closer to achieving net zero energy usage across the future campus by studying the potential of integrating a woody biomass thermal energy system and campus-wide biomass district energy to provide heat to campus buildings.

OSU-Cascades Science Pub explores worldwide decline of coral reefs

Oregon State University - Cascades’ Science Pubs are where community members can meet some of OSU’s leading researchers and learn firsthand about the impact of their work and discoveries.

In the upcoming Science Pub, Rebecca Vega-Thurber, an associate professor in OSU’s College of Science will explore the worldwide decline of coral reefs and her research on how microbes influence reef health. The Science Pub will take place on Tuesday, July 19 at McMenamins in Bend.
