Prior to working in higher education, Alison spent many years working for the National Park Service, specializing in fire ecology and plant restoration. She also was an outdoor education instructor, working for many school programs and nonprofit organizations.

Alison serves on the OSU-Cascades Sustainability Committee and is the advisor for the student-led Sustainability Club. She also collaborates with community partners to support sustainability efforts on campus.

In addition to teaching at OSU-Cascades, Alison also owns and operates Cascade Wilderness Medicine, which offers certifications in wilderness medicine, a requirement for anyone entering into professional guiding or outdoor instructional professions.

Alison’s research interests lie at the intersection of recreation and ecology, in particular the development of recreation site monitoring protocol and vegetation restoration.
