Talk to your program faculty. The Program Budget Worksheet is a good tool to help you ask the right questions before you start the budget process.
-
Are there new expenses or program changes you anticipate in the future?
-
Are there additional courses that you will need to plan for due to curriculum changes or new programs?
-
When will you need additional hires and at which rank?
-
This is a good time to update your program's vision or strategic plan if you have one, or to develop one if you haven't done so already.

Complete your budget template. It will include an accounting for previous fiscal year budgets, your approved current FY budget, and your draft budget for the next three fiscal years. In particular, you should examine expenses from the past to determine which of these need to be repeated in the future.
