Writing a Mission Statement can be one of the most important things a Student Organization can do to help set the framework for their organization.

What is a Mission Statement?

Your Mission Statement will define your student organization. It should be a good description of who you are, what you do, and what your goals are. 

Is your organization academic or mainly social? What sorts of activities do you plan on holding? What can members expect to be doing by joining your group? All of these issues may be addressed in a mission statement.

This is the information that will be published on the website so should help students understand who you are and decide if they want to join.

Think about what you're organization is all about:

  • What are your values?
  • What services do you offer students?
  • What unique attributes do you have that would make someone want to join

Once you get some ideas, start developing some language. For example:

  • The mission of [organization] is to...
  • We support... by providing opportunities to....
