This summer Oregon State University - Cascades added a new bachelor's degree program in social science to its growing slate of offerings. Designed to meet the growing demand from students interested in social science, the degree includes an option in community development and leadership.
The degree program focuses on social, cultural and environmental dynamics in communities, cities and nations. Students will examine how these dynamics impact the development of sustainable systems and how successful leadership is an essential part of these processes. The curriculum allows students to synthesize ideas from various disciplines.
The degree complements Oregon State University's strength in environmental sciences and OSU-Cascades's academic focus on sustainability. The option in community development and leadership is unique to OSU-Cascades and currently not available at other Oregon public universities.
The degree provides students the knowledge needed to make decisions in the growing fields of community development and leadership. Social science graduates work in youth and family services, public health, education, regional planning, community organizing, market research, government policy, and environmental leadership.
