Dr. Gautschi received his doctorate while studying marine natural products from sponge and deep-water, marine-derived fungal species from Papua New Guinea. Dr. Gautschi then joined Bend Research Inc. as a research scientist working on drug discovery, drug delivery, and business development projects. He later helped start Agere Pharmaceuticals in 2009 as their first employee, becoming Director of Research and Development in 2011. Dr. Gautschi joined OSU in the fall of 2012.
Dr. Gautschi brings his natural product and pharmaceutical industry experiences to bear on teaching organic chemistry at OSU-Cascades. He also provides instruction for OSU Ecampus chemistry courses at OSU (Corvallis). Dr. Gautschi established the organic chemistry series and teaching lab at OSU-Cascades in 2013, and will implement the general chemistry series (with labs), along with an environmental chemistry course, in 2014.
