Share Your Journey: Brettney Green

Describe your internship. Where was it? How long was it? What were your key responsibilities?

My internship was at High Desert Middle School. I was interning with them for what turned out to be 12 weeks, I was only required to do 10 but wanted to finish the year with the kids and staff. My key responsibilities included; leading an interactive classroom of 15 culturally diverse students who struggled academically to improve their grades, and in fact saw their grades improve. I Initiated and facilitated a Gay Straight Alliance Club for students. I forecasted enrollment and courses for 760 students for the upcoming year. I also coordinated a soccer tournament ensuring integration of diverse populations on each team.

Why did you choose to intern at this site?

I chose this intern site for no particular reason, I just lucked out. I would now highly suggest it to other student because of how open the staff is to OSU interns.

What is a life lesson did you take from your internship?

I learned that if you work hard in your internships, you could make it into your job/ possible career. I am now an official staff member with High Desert Middle School as an Education Assistant in Life Skills working my way to be a school counselor.

How did your internship influence your career interests, goals, or future plans?

My internship with High Desert really gave me the confidence that I was working toward the right career path.

What advice would you give to students to help them make the most of their internship experience?

The best advice I could give to other students would be; don’t hold back, dive in and give it your all while being true to yourself.
