Andrew Hawley teaches in the TRAL program with a focus on technical based courses. His passion for outdoor recreation and adventure leadership started at an early age from family camping trips around the Midwest and southern Canada.
Andrew has been instructing in the outdoor education field both domestically and internationally for over 15 years. This includes operating a river company in Guatemala, instructing for Costa Rica Rainforest Outward Bound School, guiding mountain and river expeditions throughout four continents and coordinating a nationally recognized outdoor program at Appalachian State University.
Andrew’s collegiate teaching experience started during his undergraduate years at NC State as a teaching assistant for various outdoor education courses. His teaching experience further developed throughout graduate school at Ohio University and continued to be a vital part of his role at Appalachian State University where he taught outdoor skills based classes such as mountaineering and whitewater rafting.
He holds certifications and trainings with the AMGA, ACA, PNA, AAC, IRF, Rescue 3 International, NREMS, NCEMS and WMI.
Andrew is excited to join the TRAL program and share his passion for the outdoors with his students, colleagues and community.
