Dr. John Borstad is a clinical professor in the OSU-Cascades DPT Program, joining the faculty in 2024 after serving as the department chair at the College of St. Scholastica for eight years. Prior to that, Borstad was an associate professor at The Ohio State University. During his time in academic physical therapy, Borstad has taught biomechanics, evidence-based practice, orthopedics, therapeutic exercise, professionalism, and has mentored student research projects and case studies. Borstad is an editor of Therapeutic Exercise; Foundations and Techniques and co-authors the shoulder chapter in Joint Structure and Function; A Comprehensive Analysis.
Dr. Borstad earned a B.S. in physical therapy in 1993 and a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Science in 2004, both from the University of Minnesota, and completed a Fellowship in Higher Education Leadership in 2018. His scholarship focuses on the effects of soft tissue alterations on shoulder biomechanics and on clinical shoulder measurements. His research has been funded by the NIH, NHTSA and Komen for the Cure. Professionally, Borstad has served as a Delegate to the APTA House of Delegates, reviews abstracts for the Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy and the Academy of Education, and is a site reviewer for the Council on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.
