OSU-Cascades honors student veterans

To honor student veterans at  Oregon State University – Cascades in advance of Veterans Day, the Bend campus is hosting a variety of activities from Nov. 3 to Nov. 11.

Seven percent of OSU-Cascades students are veterans, including 65 active duty veterans and 18 students receiving veteran dependent benefits. 

Included in the week of activities are:

  • An exhibit titled “I Served” featuring posters of women student veterans who are currently enrolled.  The exhibit in part honors the anniversary of 100 years of women in the U.S. Marine Corps
  • A display in the Beaver Dam of notes of appreciation from campus community members to student veterans
  • A lunch reception recognizing the contributions of student veterans that took place on Nov. 6
  • Complimentary tickets for student veterans to the OSU Veterans Appreciation Game that took place in Corvallis on Nov. 3
  • Participation in the 19th Annual Veterans Day Parade in downtown Bend on Nov. 11

Of the active duty veterans enrolled at OSU-Cascades:

  • 8 are women
  • The oldest is 56; the youngest is 22
  • 40 represent Central Oregon, 11 are from elsewhere in Oregon and 14 are from outside the state
  • Of those residing in Central Oregon, 26 are from Bend, nine are from Redmond, three are from La Pine and one each is from Madras and Sunriver
