Lakayana Yotoma Drury, vice chair of the Oregon Commission on Black Affairs, will deliver the keynote address at Oregon State University – Cascades’ annual Peace Breakfast on Jan. 19.

The breakfast, a long-standing tradition within OSU, commemorates the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and aims to inspire continued progress toward his vision of justice and equality.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Charles McGrath Family Atrium of Edward J. Ray Hall on the OSU-Cascades campus. The event is free, but registration is required.

Drury, a former elementary and high school teacher, is founder and executive director of Word is Bond, a nonprofit that empowers young Black men. He has served on the boards of the Local Public Safety Coordinating Committee and on a coalition that advised the Portland Public School’s Center for Black Student Excellence.

Drury received the Community Leader of the Year award at the 38th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute event hosted by the World Arts Foundation in 2024. He was named to the Portland Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 in 2021 and recognized in its Executives of the Year list in 2022.
