Phase 3 Cleanup of the Former Bend Demolition Landfill
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is seeking public comment on proposed cleanup alternatives for Phase 3 remediation of the former Bend Demolition Landfill, located on the OSU-Cascades campus.
OSU-Cascades plans to continue remediation of approximately 5.7 acres of the former landfill to support future campus development. Proposed future uses include academic facilities, a student health and recreation center and student housing.
Cleanup alternatives under evaluation include:
- No action
- Consolidation of landfill contents on-site
- Off-site disposal of landfill waste
DEQ welcomes community input before a final decision is made.

The Analysis of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives Report provides detailed information about the former Bend Demolition Landfill site, the cleanup objectives for Phase 3 remediation and the alternatives being evaluated by DEQ. Community members are encouraged to review the report to better understand the potential environmental, community and campus development considerations associated with each option before submitting comments.
