Internships are powerful experiential learning opportunities. They enable you to learn and grow your knowledge and skills under the supervision of a professional in your field of interest by applying and integrating knowledge and theory learned in the classroom in a real-world academic or professional setting.
CEOAS students engage in Internships by taking the following steps:
Internship Planning Process Overview
Below is a high-level overview of the process with approximate timelines.
1 year prior
Read the “Explore” page.
Make connections with potential organizations.
Meet with your Academic Advisor to determine how/if internship requirements fit into your degree completion plans (credit vs. non-credit).
6 months prior
Read the “Connect” page.
Engage with employers and apply for internships! When you find one, talk with your internship supervisor about your goals, start /end dates, hours per week, total hours, site location, and whether paid or unpaid.
3 months prior
Read the "Apply" page.
Submit an experience in Handshake. Reviw the internship course expectations and work with your internship supervisor to plan how to complete them.
3 weeks prior
Read the “Register” page.
You will receive course registration override and registration instructions from your Academic Advisor. Register for the course and number of credits approved. Engage with Supervisor to begin internship activities.
