Welcome to OSU-Cascades START

Meet remotely with your academic advisor, sign up for fall classes, and attend virtual START events.

What Is START?

START is new student orientation and an opportunity for new students to meet with an academic advisor, register for courses, and attend virtual orientation events. Both students and families are provided tools to familiarize themselves with OSU-Cascades, including information on financial aid, campus policies and student account set-up.

Before You Sign Up for START

Pay your Advance Tuition Deposit
To confirm your attendance at OSU-Cascades you will be asked to submit the Advance Tuition Deposit (ATD) form along with your $200 deposit. Once you pay the deposit you can sign up for START by calling Enrollment Services at 541-322-3100 ext. 1.

Call Enrollment Services to START

Due to COVID-19, OSU-Cascades will offer all first-year advising and registration appointments remotely. You will have the opportunity to meet with your academic advisor via Zoom to review your degree requirements and plan out fall classes. There will also be multiple virtual events you can attend to learn more about housing, financial aid, DAS, and student life — see below for dates.

Please call enrollment services at 541-322-3100 ext 1 to schedule an appointment and be connected with your academic advisor. First-year START appointments will be scheduled with your academic advisor during the weeks of June 22-July 10. You will not be able to register until your Advance Tuition Deposit is paid. When you call, you will be asked for your OSU-Cascades ID number (hint: It’s on your acceptance letter). You will also be asked for your contact and major information. Be sure to have this handy when you call us.

Our hope is that we will all be back on campus in person in the fall. At that time we will invite students and family members to join for a more traditional Cascades START orientation to cover additional topics and ensure a great START at OSU-Cascades.

Getting STARTed Virtual Events

In addition to your appointment with an academic advisor we will be hosting a variety of “Getting STARTed” virtual events. These events are aimed at providing you with information to ensure a smooth transition to campus as well as an opportunity to have your questions answered. It is also a wonderful opportunity to connect with your future classmates.

Students who have paid their ATD will receive communication about how to sign up for these upcoming events.

Preparing for START Advising Appointment

Placement Tests (IMPORTANT: Students must take the placement test prior to attending a START session.)

  • ALEKs Math Placement Test
Regardless of AP scores or previous college level math credit all freshman students must take the OSU Math Placement test ALEKs. Information is available here. COCC DPP students are encouraged to complete the ALEKs Math Placement Test several days before advising appointment to ensure registration hold is removed at COCC.
  • Submit College Transcripts, AP and CLEP records:
    • High school Dual Credit Courses – if you completed a sponsored dual credit course such as writing or math in high school you will need to request an official transcript from the college or university that provided the credits to OSU-Cascades. Your high school transcript will not have the correct records for these credits to be transferred to OSU.
    • Advanced Placement or CLEP – Students will need to request AP scores from the College Board sent to OSU-Cascades.
    • Standard college courses — if a student enrolled and completed courses from a community college while a high school student the student will need to request an official transcript from the community college to be sent to OSU-Cascades.

*Please let us know if you are having trouble securing these official documents due to COVID-19 and we can suggest alternatives. Contact us at admit@osucascades.edu.
