Health Insurance

All services provided by OSU-Cascades Student Health and Wellness are covered by the student health fee. Although health insurance is not required for domestic students, all students are strongly encouraged to have some form of health insurance.

Domestic Students

Although not required for domestic students, OSU encourages students to seek health insurance so that they can live their healthiest lives.

International Students

International students must purchase OSU's health insurance or show a record of similar coverage and request a waiver. International students are automatically enrolled in OSU's health insurance, and the charge is billed to the student's account. Insurance Options

College students in Oregon may qualify for the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) if they meet income and residency requirements. Eligibility is primarily based on monthly income, and many students with low or no income can get free health coverage, including medical, dental, and mental health services. Apply for OHP to see if you qualify.

The Health Insurance Marketplace is a resource where college students can compare and enroll in affordable health insurance plans. It offers financial help based on income, making it easier for students to get coverage that fits their budget and needs. Open enrollment is November 1-January 15 unless you have a life change or income that qualifies for a special enrollment period.

Under the Affordable Care Act, students can typically remain on a parent or guardian’s health insurance plan until they turn 26 years old. This applies even if the student is married, financially independent, or living away from home. To understand the specific benefits and coverage available for dependent coverage, contact your insurance provider directly.

If you are a student at Oregon State University, you can enroll in the University Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) from PacificSource each term. Enrollment is easy, and the plan provides access to a wide network of local and nationwide care providers.
