FAQ

No, all health and wellness services provided by OSU-Cascades are covered by the student health fee. Although health insurance is not required for domestic students, all students are strongly encouraged to have some form of health insurance. OSU offers a comprehensive health insurance plan as well as information on signing up for the Oregon Health Plan. Visit beav.es/insurance for insurance information.

Immunizations offer safe and effective protection from vaccine-preventable diseases and safeguard the health of students and the community. This is especially true for students living in group housing on- or off-campus. Visit beav.es/immunizations for requirements.

The Deschutes County Health Services’ Mobile Clinic van offers sexual and reproductive health services on the OSU-Cascades campus. Services include birth control (pills, injections, patches, ring, Nexplanon, condoms), STI screening and treatment, the morning-after pill (Plan B), PrEP and more. These services are offered to students for free or at low cost. If you have questions or want to schedule an appointment, call 541-322-7499.

Students can access health care supplies and over-the counter medications for symptoms, first aid, a vital signs review, free safer sex supplies, plus education about health promotion and illness prevention. Nurse visits are available in person and by phone during the fall, winter and spring terms. To contact the nurse, call 541-322-3127 or send a message via the patient portal (myhealth.oregonstate.edu).

Students also have access to a nurse by phone 24/7 year-round. A nurse can help talk through your symptoms, recommend next steps and direct you to the right level of care. Please call 541-737-9355 and identify yourself as an OSU-Cascades student.

Counseling services are offered year-round, in person or via telehealth. A professional counselor can help you with interpersonal conflicts, stress management, grief and life transitions. All counseling sessions are confidential and free for enrolled students. Email student.counseling@osucascades.edu to make an appointment. The Anytime Anywhere app also provides chat or phone counseling for students at anytime. Learn more at beav.es/AnytimeAnywhere.

OSU requires gender-based violence prevention training for all new students on campus that is tailored to our community. Students will be contacted via email early in their first term with instructions. The training encourages students to reflect on their personal values around relationships; challenges harmful and demeaning language and attitudes; and provides guidance for supporting a friend who may have experienced sexual violence. To foster a safe, healthy and welcoming community, this content discusses the effects alcohol and other substances may have.

The Center for Advocacy, Prevention & Education offers survivor advocacy and gender-based violence prevention services. Visit cape.oregonstate.edu to learn more or to schedule a confidential virtual appointment.
