Experiential Learning in Kinesiology

Take it to the field!

In the kinesiology program at OSU-Cascades, you get to choose how you earn your three credits of experiential learning — through internships, research, projects, or even studying abroad.

The best part is you get to take your classroom learning on a test run while boosting your resume.

Experiential Learning Courses Options

KIN 307 Seminar – Take this a one-credit preparatory course for planning your internship. It is required for KIN students completing a KIN 410 internship and highly recommended for all KIN students. It counts toward the required 24 credits of KIN Beyond the Core.

Note: KIN 307 does not  count towards the required 3 credits for Experiential Learning.

KIN 401 Research - Take this course if you’re pursuing academic research with a faculty member or working in one of our on-campus labs. The hours and expectations are arranged with the faculty through overseeing the research. These credits are variable between 1-16 credits.

KIN 406 Special Projects – Take this course if you want to design or develop a project related to kinesiology. You will need to designate a faculty to oversee and evaluate your project. These credits are variable between 1-16 credits.

KIN 410 Internship – Take this course to get “hand-on” experience in a work setting. Internship experiences may include shadowing, assisting with data collection, operational tasks at the site, interacting with clients, and more! As part of your internship, you will submit assignments reflecting on your experience and designing/implementing a project or program at your site. Internships need to be pre-arranged, see Internship Program requirement and timeline. These credits are variable between 1-16 credits.

Study Abroad courses– Take courses abroad to gain international hands-on experience through Oregon State University’s Global Opportunities. Activities may include participating in international health projects, assisting with community fitness programs, engaging in cross-cultural sports initiatives, and more. Study abroad opportunities need to be pre-planned and pre-approved; see the College of Health Study Abroad requirements and timeline. These credits are variable between 1-12 credits.
