Northwest Bat Hub

Northwestern Hub for Bat Population Research and Monitoring

Our team of experienced bat biologists is uniquely poised to serve as a resource for bat monitoring projects in the Pacific Northwest, no matter the scale or scope. In addition to working with federal and state agencies to study persistence and extinction risks of bats in the region, we offer a comprehensive suite of services to help our partners assess and monitor bats. We provide strategic advice on all phases of projects from inception to execution. We support our partners through the design and implementation of baseline studies and long-term monitoring.

Bat Movement Studies

Our team can assist with development and implementation of telemetry studies to locate roosting sites, monitor foraging patterns, and better understand habitat use.

The Bat Hub also has experience in siting and building Motus towers. We can help with every aspect of your Motus tower project, including bat capture and tagging.

Acoustic Call Analysis

To definitively assess bat presence, thorough and robust call analysis is critical. Our team can take your data from initial organization to manual vetting and reporting. Whether you're interested in presence/absence, activity, or a comprehensive view of a species or guild, we can parse through your files to get you what you need.

Presence /Absence Surveys

The Northwest Bat Hub has unparalleled experience in passive acoustic monitoring. For nearly a decade, we have specialized in coordinating and conducting bat acoustic monitoring. The Bat Hub experts can develop and execute monitoring plans at any scale using a variety of methods.

Trainings & Workshops

We can develop and host myriad presentations, workshops, or field courses for the study and handling of bats. We work with partners to meet specific needs for teams who wish to enhance their ability to identify monitor and handle bats safely and effectively. We can provide virtual, classroom, and/or field instruction.

Interagency collaboration

We serve as a center of gravity for interagency collaboration to pursue questions of common interest about bat conservation status and trends and inform evidence-based conservation decision-making.

Our collaborative hub enables pooling of resources and an economy of scale, leveraging individual partner investments for coordinated regional conservation knowledge and action.

Seasonal opportunities

Each year, the Bat Hub hires seasonal technicians to conduct bat acoustic monitoring across Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Our teams spend the summer hiking, driving, and camping in every habitat the Pacific Northwest has to offer.

If you are interested in joining our team, check back this winter to see our job postings, or sign up for email updates by clicking here
