Dr. Bahman Abbasi joined Oregon State University – Cascades in 2017 as an assistant professor of mechanical engineering. In addition to the academia, Abbasi has over 10 years of industrial and consulting experience. He is the Lead PI on ~$5M of US DOE-funded water desalination and treatment projects. Abbasi is the founder and director of the Water and Energy Technologies Laboratory (WET Lab) at OSU. Before joining OSU, he was a Technical Advisor to US Department of Energy, Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) where he helped award and manage dozens of multimillion dollar research projects in thermal systems design, net-zero water technologies, solar-thermal technologies, thermal energy storage, materials development, etc. Abbasi holds multiple patents in critically-charged thermal systems’ controls. He also has industrial background and peer-reviewed publications in atomization, spray heat transfer, and compressible flows through millimeter size channels. Abbasi’s experience in the federal government, industry, and academia includes TRL 1-9 technology development, and extensive project management.
