Few professions have the potential to impact lives like teaching. Our nationally-accredited, cohort-based teaching program offers Master of Arts in Teaching degrees in elementary and secondary education, as well as coursework to support continuing learning and accreditation. Teaching faculty focus on instructional strategies and methods, best practices, research-driven theory, practical experiences and prepare teaching candidates for an Oregon Preliminary Licensure.
The OSU-Cascades Master of Arts in Teaching program provides a student teaching experience that is more than twice the hours required for an Oregon preliminary teaching license. You’ll spend the school year gaining valuable hands-on experience in K-12 classrooms throughout Central Oregon — applying instructional strategies and methods, exchanging best practices with co-teachers and getting feedback from university supervisors.
Our students score 10%+ higher than the national average on the edTPA licensure exam.
Our research and teaching faculty bring current theory and practical knowledge.
We are proud of the more than 700 teachers who have graduated from the Master of Arts in Teaching program since 2001.
Standing in front of her second-grade class as a new teacher at Lava Ridge Elementary School, Rachael Schuetz loved what she was doing. In her spare time, she thought of ways new teachers could be even better prepared. Josie Thomas, one of her young students, imagined becoming a teacher too. Fast forward 15 years, and both are realizing their dreams. Schuetz is now a faculty member for the Master of Arts in Teaching program at OSU-Cascades. Josie is an OSU-Cascades student, and will soon be in front of a class of her own.
Our coursework prepares the teacher candidate for preliminary licensure in Oregon.
