On January 17, The Student Life Events Council is organizing our 6th annual MLK Jr. Day of Service event. This is a time for students, faculty, and staff to come together to turn this day off into a “Day On” in favor of a day of service and improvement to our Central Oregon community.
Upon registering through CampusGroups with your household, you will be designated a time between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday, January 17 to work at one of several predetermined projects with nonprofit organizations in the Central Oregon community. In addition, this year we encouraging Bend Beavs to get out and assist our community beyond the Events Council organized projects through a social media campaign using the hashtag #bendbeavsdayON, where Bend Beavs can post their community service projects from anywhere in the world during the day of service.
Martin Luther King Jr. held the firm belief that the power to change the world stood within each individual person. This event grants the opportunity to come together as a community for a day of service and improvement to the place we call home, as it is more important than ever to give back to our community during these difficult times.

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration commemorates the legacy of Dr. King and allows the Oregon State community to reflect on his work in today’s context through engaging workshops, presentations and service opportunities. In its 40th year, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration is Oregon State University’s longest running annual event focused on social justice and transformative change. Registration is required for this virtual event. Held on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. while honoring members of the Oregon State community who carry his message and work forward in the present.
The 2022 keynote speaker is LaTosha Brown, cofounder of Black Voters Matter Fund, visionary thought leader and cultural activist. Brown is nationally recognized as the “go-to” expert in Black voting rights and voter suppression, Black women’s empowerment and philanthropy. Her voice is the nexus between the civil rights movement, the Black Power movement and Black Lives Matter.
This event is sponsored by Oregon State University, the Office of Institutional Diversity, the OSU Foundation and the OSU Alumni Association.
On Monday, January 17, join fellow Bend Beav students in a day of service with local nonprofits. As a result of the current pandemic, we will be limiting participation at each nonprofit location by allowing only one family unit to participate per location. Additionally, this year the university will be unable to provide transportation to the locations throughout the community. In order to participate in a day of service at a local nonprofit sign up for your preferred location below with one ticket represents one family group. As some nonprofits may need more participants than others we may ask you to participate at another nonprofit to better serve our community. After signing up we will send you the contact, address, and other information for your designated nonprofit.
Registration opening soon!
