Kyle Webb is an instructor with the energy systems engineering program. Prior to joining OSU-Cascades, he was an instructor in the mechanical and aerospace engineering department at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Kyle spent eleven years as a R&D engineer at Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies, designing hardware and analog/mixed-signal integrated circuits for a wide range of oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
Program Lead & Instructor, Energy Systems Engineering
Rebecca Webb is an instructor and program lead for the energy systems engineering program. Prior to joining OSU-Cascades, she was an associate professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Rebecca also worked as a R&D engineer at Agilent Technologies designing test and measurement equipment and as a senior engineer responsible for performing thermal analysis of laser cooling techniques at Directed Energy Solutions. Rebecca’s research is focused on computational and experimental microscale fluidic and heat transfer studies. Her goal is to use research to help create a more sustainable world. Applications of her work include solar electric generating systems, solar thermal propulsion, and electronic cooling.
Kyle Niemeyer, PhD
Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering
Dr. Niemeyer is an assistant professor in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering at Oregon State University. He has been working with the ESL since September 2013, studying the performance of different fuels in advanced internal combustion engines. His other research areas include computational modeling of combustion, and using GPUs to accelerate scientific and engineering simulations. Dr. Niemeyer received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in August 2013, after obtaining his BS and MS in Aerospace Engineering from the same university. Outside of work, he enjoys weight lifting and running, and discovering the Northwest's multitude of IPAs.
Yibin Deng, PhD
2015-2016 Visiting Scholar, Wuhan University of Technology
Dr. Deng was a visiting scholar from Wuhan University of Technology, China. He received his PhD in Power Machinery Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China. He worked at the Energy Systems Laboratory from June 2015 until June 2016, focusing on modeling fluid flow and heat transfer in Microchannel Heat Exchangers. His other research interests include development of numerical simulation (FEA, CFD) and optimizing natural gas engine and marine engine performance. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, bicycling and spending time with his son.
Shyam Menon, PhD
Aerospace Engineering
Dr. Menon is a postdoctoral researcher in the School of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Oregon State University. He received his M.S and Ph.D. degrees in Aerospace engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park. He has since conducted postdoctoral research at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and at the University of Southern California. He worked at the Energy Systems Laboratory from December 2014 until August 2016, focusing on onboard natural gas refueling strategies for transportation applications. His other research interests include fundamental studies on ignition and flame propagation, miniature engines for unmanned air vehicle (UAV) applications, and development of efficient numerical techniques for simulation of reacting flow configurations. Outside of work, he spends time hiking, bicycling, skiing and generally being outdoors.
