Experiential Learning in an Entrepreneurial Town
Students apply classroom knowledge through required internships in Central Oregon’s world-class resorts, restaurants, lodging, brew pubs and hospitality technology industry. There are three required internships that students complete while earning a hospitality management degree.
Bend is minutes from Mt. Bachelor, fishing and playing on the Deschutes River, and hiking at our high mountain lakes. Smith Rock calls this area home.
Job before graduation
Heather Mullaly knew she wanted a career in the hospitality industry, and went on a search to find a program to match her passion. She chose OSU-Cascades for its location in a thriving resort town. That turned out to be the right decision. Heather interned at three locations including the Oxford Hotel. The internship led to a full-time job offer before graduation. Heather is now a marketing coordinator with Oxford Corporate and proud to tell the stories of this boutique hotel group.
Mt. Bachelor
“I’ve fallen in love with the hospitality industry,” said Tristin Sornson, '18. “I love resort management and the diversity of the workforce you find in hospitality. It’s an exciting industry to be in.”
Pine Ridge Inn
"I completed my first internship this summer with The Pine Ridge Inn, working with social media marketing and the housekeeping department. I learned how to devise a marketing strategy and constantly evolve it with a business’ customers, and how an explicitly clear job description leads to higher employee performance and morale," said Tyler Spragg, '18.
Brasada Ranch
Jenna Hanshe, '18, had always worked in restaurants growing up on the east coast. She moved west and was one of the first students to enroll in our hospitality management degree program. At Brasada Ranch, she gained management experience interning as a food and beverage supervisor. Now she’s back on the east coast, in New York City, working as a manager at one of its hottest restaurants.
