OSU-Cascades Science Pub explores Antarctic krill and the Southern Ocean on June 20

Oregon State University – Cascades’ Science Pub series continues on June 20 with “Insights into Ice,” a talk that looks at the role of Antarctic krill in the Southern Ocean and the challenges of living and conducting research in Antarctica. 

Science Pub presenter and researcher Kim Bernard has spent more than 49 months in Antarctica.

Katie Wilson

Wilson brings more than 20 years of experience in student affairs leadership to OSU-Cascades. She served as senior director for student engagement at Miami University in Ohio before becoming the inaugural director of the university’s then newly constructed Armstrong Student Center in 2013. There she led the development of student governance and board participation; on-campus student engagement; disability access, improvements and compliance; diversity and inclusivity initiatives; and management of the 250,000 square foot student center.

Jenna Goldsmith

Jenna Goldsmith is a poet, writer and teacher based in Illinois. She is the author of four poetry chapbooks, including "CRUSH," winner of the 2022 Baltic Writing Residency Chapbook Contest, and "TITLE NINE," which was published by Press 254, the teaching press of Illinois State University. Her writing has been featured in numerous journals including New Delta Review, South Carolina Review, and Cleveland Review of Books, and her full-length poetry collection is forthcoming from Cornerstone Press/University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.

OSU-Cascades to host open house for public to explore expansion progress on May 28

Oregon State University – Cascades’ invites community members to an open house on May 28 to explore the latest progress as once unusable lands — a former landfill and pumice mine — near the center of Bend are transformed into a university campus.

Currently under construction, the Student Success Center will be open for hard hat tours during the May 28 Community Open House.

Marilyn Winkleby

Marilyn Winkleby, MPH, Ph.D., is a Professor of Medicine, emerita at Stanford University, Department of Medicine. After completing her doctorate at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health she led a population health science research group at Stanford that combined epidemiologic study with intervention research to further the understanding of social determinants of health. She received substantial funding from NIH and CDC, and has published over 150 articles in scientific journals, including the Journal of the American Medical Association and the New England Journal of Medicine.

"How to Start a Riot" featuring Ruth Vernotico is part of the "Scalehouse Voices" series.
