At Oregon State University - Cascades' next Science Pub, OSU climatologist Larry O’Neill will offer predictions on the impact of a changing climate on Central Oregon.

The Science Pub, “Climate Change Impacts Around (the) Bend,” will be offered via YouTube Live on Thursday, Jan. 28.

OSU-Cascades Innovation Co-Lab will support minority entrepreneurs with new Blue Fund program

To help increase the success of minority-owned businesses in Central Oregon, Oregon State University – Cascades’ Innovation Co-Lab has partnered with area organizations to launch a program for underserved entrepreneurs in Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson counties. The program will provide participants with coaching, business plan development tools, and access to financial resources including loans, investment capital and grants, as well as ongoing advising.

OSU-Cascades celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day with talk by Angela Davis and opportunities for discussion and service

Angela Davis, an American political activist, philosopher, educator and author will be the keynote speaker at Oregon State University’s 39th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration on Jan. 18.

Following Davis’ address, OSU-Cascades will host a community discussion about everyday activism, and students will coordinate a volunteer effort to support Central Oregon nonprofits.

OSU-Cascades Advocacy and Advisory Board to meet Jan. 11

The Oregon State University - Cascades Advocacy and Advisory Board will meet Jan. 11 and hear reports on expansion efforts, fundraising and advocacy, admissions, and the impact of COVID-19 on student success.

Agenda topics also include breakout discussions related to the pandemic and future resumption efforts. Board members will provide insight on issues such as employee engagement, prospective student and family expectations for the college experience in the next academic year, and innovative affordable housing options for students.

New OSU-Cascades report aims to help guide public health messaging around COVID-19

As COVID-19 case numbers continue to climb, Bend city officials and public health leaders are collaborating with Oregon State University — Cascades researchers to determine how to tailor public health messages to keep communities safer and healthier.

Finding ways to convey the benefit of public health recommendations that align with the values of different groups of people and communities is instrumental in this work.

OSU-Cascades offers ‘Cultivating Resilience in Challenging Times’ course for students, public

Beginning in January, Oregon State University – Cascades will again offer “Cultivating Resilience in Challenging Times,” a course designed to help community members and students better cope during trying times.

The 10-week virtual course begins on Jan. 4 and meets Wednesdays from 5 to 5:50 p.m.

Members of the public are again invited to enhance their personal resilience in a 10-week course starting Jan. 4.

Perceptions based on the clothing people wear is the topic of the next OSU-Cascades Science Pub

The connection between the clothing people wear and how others perceive them will be the topic of the Oregon State University Science Pub on Jan. 11.

The virtual event, a joint effort of Oregon State University in Corvallis and OSU-Cascades in Bend, will feature a talk by Regan A. R. Gurung, a professor of psychological science in Oregon State’s College of Liberal Arts and interim executive director of OSU’s Center for Teaching and Learning.

OSU-Cascades to host conversation about local communities of color and path to social equity

Oregon State University – Cascades will host a virtual forum titled “Bringing Healing to Communities of Color Post-Election” from 6 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 7. The event is free to attend and open to the public.
